Tell "your friend" it's most likely dehydration through not drinking enough water or drinking too much alcohol.

Would this thickness have coincided with the recent heatwave ?

Yourbody loses a huge amount of water through sweating in hot weather. Alcohol makes this worse.

That fluid must be replaced.

If you, sorry, your mate, drink lots of water your fluids will quickly go back to normal.
