"Cairnwell 3 this coming weekend" Weather looks to be cr@p but these 3 should be okay in the rain. The heat is worse than rain though. Went through Inverness on the way back from Glen Affric. Couldn’t find a chipper, do you recommend any?

"Was planning the white mounth loop on Wednesday but weather looks crap so waiting for the next food spell." Aye, is that the 5 including Lochnagar and Carn a’ Choire Bhoidheach? Did them for the 3rd time last October. Broad Cairn to Cairn Bannoch has to the easiest Munro, didn’t seem like Broad Cairn should be a Munro at all, was tiring enough though by the time we got back down to Loch Muick. There’s a crashed plane on Carn an t Saigart mor.

"Watching this space. Trying to build up my non existent fitness up to hill walking. For now im starting with plain old walking Gotta start somewhere " Thanks for that, it’s good that this thread gets folk interested in their own fitness. Munros range from relatively easy, like Glenshee where the ski road takes you more than halfway up to absolute torture and some are very dangerous. Most are safe given the right gear. You’ll get a lot out of it, other than fitness, there’s stamina, challenges, achievements and you meet a lot of nice folk in the mountains, I’m never stuck for a crac with some strangers.

"Done a few over the years that I’ve been holidaying in the highlands. An Teallach Ben More Assynt Also done some really good none munros such as Cul Beag and Cul More. And also Suilven which easily feels like it could be a Munro 😂" An Teallach is a cracker, did you do the ridge? It’s a bit scary. Climbed all the ones you mention and Beinn Mòr Coigach. Suilven is one of the most stunning and iconic mountains in Scotland, surprised it’s not known about. Incredible the wall goes all the way up the side. It’s a shame we cannae post photos on the forum

Some of my favourite smaller ones are the Fiddler and Stac Pollaidh (which the bottom of had a fire on last year) Love Suilven, I did it when the weather was dreadful, nearly got blown off the little 2ft wide ridge at the top. The wall is very impressive, I have a picture of my trying to keep out the wind sat up against it, but it didn’t really help lol

That was my first Munro, I worked nearby when I left school, long time ago

"No, that’s a new one on me " It’s isolated, can’t see it from any road, I took an unethical route in and out to get there and discovered a whole deserted village, probably abandoned around WW1. Was like a Brig o Doon moment

Also the stamina you’ll gain sets you up for other tasks 😉

"Done a few, but I don’t really keep count lol, they were a few years back now. I’d probably struggle now I imagine as weightlifters don’t do as much in the way of stuff like running or hillwalking but I would like to get back out on the hills again sometime soon. Always used to enjoy it when I did it. " Is it weights you’re into? Used to swim a lot but wanted to build up the lower body and found the hiking a much better way of keeping in shape. Because of some of the challenges, changed the diet and lifestyle a lot so I could meet the demands of bigger hikes, once did a 46km and 6 Munro walk in one day, which was extreme Planning a similar one soon, so trying to do a couple of munros per week to cope with it.

"Watching this space. Trying to build up my non existent fitness up to hill walking. For now im starting with plain old walking Gotta start somewhere " Having a goal is a great motivator. I’m planning a big hike with 6 munros. My fitness isn’t there yet, doing mainly 20km hikes with one or two munros to prepare for it (the hike I plan is 68km (will take two days))

Oh, that’s no good. That will set you back a fair bit. Damaged my Achilles tendons last year (severe case of over hike did 12 Munros in a week) had 3 months out and had to ease my way back in 🫤

"Did Cairnwell 3 on Saturday,,, very very easy 3hrs in total" They are the easiest, but if you did them from the bottom of Glenshee it would be tough enough going, the ski road makes them nice munros to do. Just got back from Strathfarrar, did the 4 munros which was a 29km walk and 20km on the push bike, quite a demanding day. Needed the bike as the lairds are a bit weird with controlling a gate to let folk drive up the Glen or not, I prefer to be independent of their rules. When I was younger I tended to do the easier and more local ones, now I’m older I’m doing the tougher and more distant that involves sleepovers in the van, but it’s really nice to get out and about and into some of the remotest parts of Scotland

"Been doing the hills for 7 years but had to stop last year due to slipping on a downhill grass slope !!!!! Just complete 2 up by Victoira Car park near Bridge of Orchy and got soaked again. Hoping for the other side of the road this weekend" Was that Stob Gabhar and Stob a’ Choire Odhair? That’s the 2 closest to me I haven’t done yet, how did you find them? Says in walk Highlands there’s a tricky part on the flank of Stob Gabhar?
