I have been on TRT testosterone replacement for 8 years now.

I was put on TRT when my Total Testosterone was 13nmol/L and my FREE testosterone was extremely Low

Low FREE Testosterone causes osteoporosis this is fact and it's called the hidden disease because you are fully unaware until your bones start fracturing.

I was initially on TestoGel manufactured by Besins Healthcare, Once my dosage and bloods had been fully tested and settled, I was taking 2 x 50mg sachet each morning and I remained on TestoGel for over 3 years. And before we get everyone chipping in saying Gels don't work, my total testosterone was a steady 24nmol/L daily.

I then changed to Nebido 1000mg/4 ml solution

It took about 6 - 8 months before my correct dosage gap was found and I am receiving the above injection every 8 weeks

My trough results are as follows;

Total testosterone - 26.7nmol/L

Free - testosterone - 0.414nmol/L

Bioavailable testosterone - 10.4nmol/L

PSA 2.6 (normal for myself)

Haematocrit - 0.48

SHBG - 56.3nmol/L

Albumin - 46g/L

All other bloods in normal range.

My DEXA scans over 6 years went from;

Osteoporosis to Osteopinia to Normal,

Bone density increased roughly by 12.4% every 2 years.

I will be on TRT for my whole life and whilst Testosterone normally starts to drop off in males from age 50 upwards, my testosterone is at present a steady 26.7nmol/L

I have studied all aspects of TRT for the past 7 years and have a full understanding of most processes and the different types of Gels and injections.

I am on TRT via my NHS Practice Doctor but I insist that my yearly bloods are taken by my private Consultant Urological Surgeon and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer who's qualifications are - BSc (Hons) MBBS, PhD,FRCS (Urol).

My private Consultant who works both NHS and private, checks my bloods then writes to advise my NHS doctor on way ahead.

A am happy to give advice on TRT, but when comments get silly like when people say they have done a pin prick blood test and self blood tests I just ignore these comments

Over all, TRT testosterone replacement has been a life saver for myself, it works for me and has virtually saved my life.

A lot cheaper than you think depending on what markets you want checked. Went with randox last year, either send you a diy kit or they have a clinic in town to get blood taken. Results came back in a couple of days

Have a look at medicheck for their full hormone tests, they post them out and you need to find a nurse to take your bloods.

Depending on your area there’s some clinics that do it.

I’ll warn you though my doctor disregarded my own test, insisted on doing another through nhs and then told me my results were within range and wouldn’t offer any treatment.

What he didn’t understand was if I had high test on the range and it had dropped down, even though I’m still on the ok part, my test levels were right down.

Your options with nhs is gels or in some cases getting test injection. The injections are once a month as far as I know, which causes a massive spike and then drops off.

Best you scroll up and read my post regarding Gels, injections and NHS

And as for Bloods, blood must be taken early morning and definitely not after 10am

Good luck dealing with the NHS/GP's for low testosterone nowadays...good chance they will piss you about so you go private.

My total test is only 8.1 atm, and they have told me that is "fine".

Clearly that is low, but because my sbhg and free testosterone are classed as relatively normal they are uninterested.

Will probably just self-medicate tbh because the private TRT companies want moon-money. (And I' skint, haha.)

Where in Fife are you as the NHS normally doesn't test Free Testosterone as they say its too expensive and not on their blood test tick box sheet.

I know for a fact that Ninewells hospital refuses to check for regular blood testing.

8.1nmol/L is extremely Low, I was going to say that I would ask for a second opinion but after seeing your pic's on here, you look extremely muscular and you don't look like you lack testosterone

Been an ongoing issue for a few years now, as I was sitting at 9.1, so began exogenous testosterone injections after the GP refused treatment.

However, it has dipped lately after I experimented by stopping to see how coming off affected my blood sugars (I'm type 2), my recovery and my moods.

I will be jumping back on very soon as (for me anyway) the benefits outweigh the downsides.

It is actually very interesting to read the links between low test and type 2...and the causation of visceral fat- which I need to lose, lol.

As far as I can see, you have to options

1 Get a further test from your GP or 2, initially go private

1, exogenous testosterone injections or Gel lowers your LH and FSH to virtually zero as your pituitary gland recognises exogenous testosterone and tells your testicles to shut down.

If you are using gel, it's a repeat daily occasion of administrating gel each morning

If injection you need to determine when at your lowest point and stop fully, get tested a few weeks later when your LH and FSH are still at zero, take Co-codamol for a few months before also, as this lowers your testosterone and alcohol also lowers your testosterone

So, if you're last test was 9.1nmol/L and you do all of the above then you should be well below.

2, Spire Murrayfield hospital, book an appointment to get tested, there's a number of urologists who focus on this and if you search for a private Consultant Urological Surgeon and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer who's qualifications are - BSc (Hons) MBBS, PhD,FRCS (Urol) they will test and write a report to your doctor advising you start on TRT (if your results are low)

Doing both routes at same time will fully convince your doctor

Anyone used Voy for trt?

Oddly enough, Voy ads have been appearing up on my feeds a lot lately over the past 2 weeks. Looked into it and considering getting the DIY check kit. Seems pretty expensive if you need the treatment. However, my question is, if the test show low testosterone can you take those results to your GP and seek out TRT through NHS or would they not touch it due to being a home DIY kit?

For me it's the lack of energy and motivation and the terrible sleeping that is making me consider looking into it. Sex drive etc is all good and currently already prescribed the blue tab, due to a previous separate issue.

Why would you consider Voy in the first place?

Go to your doctor and ask for your Testosterone to be checked whilst you explain all your symptoms.

If you're total testosterone is low then you should have the option to start TRT testosterone replacement injections or Gel.

But also ask for your Free testosterone to be tested as this is the bigger problem.

If your testosterone is within limits you won't need Voy as you will have the testosterone that your body already provides.

TRT testosterone replacement is for life, it's not a thing that you try, or take then stop.

Speak to your doctor and avoid private clinics that are simply established to make money from clients

Valid points. Only mentioned Voy as their ads have been popping up non stop. Reason I was considering the home test is due to the fact that it's hard to get an app at my GP, while juggling a 3 shift ritation. Just meant if I got the kit and all was fine I wouldn't need to waste time of the doctors

I believe Jatenzo, Kyzatrex, and Tlando—use testosterone undecanoate, which is absorbed via the lymphatic system to avoid the liver toxicity but unaware if they are approved in the UK?

I cannot say how efficient or effective they are as it would depend upon each individual's digestive rate?

Both injections (Nebido) and Gels (Testogel) are fully tested and I have used both, with trough results between 22nmol/L - 28 nmol/L

My trough (lowest results) have been as high as 35nmol/L and my dosage adjusted to lower.

I am presently on Nebido injection every 8 weeks with NHS and it works so well that I will not consider changing.

You can maybe Google Jatenzo, Kyzatrex, and Tlando and find more information but I would not consider using.

I went to my gp. Tbh I’m going to go back for a second opinion as the dr I spoke to about results was very dismissive sounding.

But the gp should do it for free.

As someone who's studied medicine etc there is no tablet form of testosterone

Test has to be injected

The tablets ie boaster are made up of stuff that would increase your test levels

You should read and adjust your statement above, as you have studied medicine, you should be fully aware that Gels work just as well as injections.

And although not readable yet in UK, there are now also 3 oral alternatives, here's the link.

Testogel and various other manufacturers Gels work perfectly giving upto 28nmol/L

Testogel is a little more work as you have to apply each morning although it isn't greasy and it absorbs quickly.

I found that due to the alcohol content it started to cause damage to my skin on shoulders after a number of years.

It can cause skin irritation, drying, or a burning sensation, especially if applied to damaged skin.

It contains ethanol to help the testosterone pass through the skin, which evaporates after application

Testogel definitely works without need of injections

REMEMBER;

If you're doctor refuses to test your Free testosterone and Bio available testosterone, then ask them for;

Albumin

SHBG

Total testosterone

Once you have the results, you can then calculate your Free & Bio available testosterone

For some strange reason many doctors refuse to test for the most essential results and the hidden killer.
