I shall be there for the march.

It's more important for LGBT+ people to go given the surge in hate from the right wing.

If you see me (I'm very distinctive) say hi.

Not for me

I took the kids along last year to support a family member who had recently come out and I was really shocked at how sexualised it was.

Good luck to everyone that takes part and I hope you all have a good day

It has, for too long now, been overly commercialised and doesn’t feel like a true β€œpride”…

I’ll still attend but it certainly doesn’t have the same feel as the prides from Section28, equal marriage, etc., but let’s roll out Claire Sweeney or another β€œceleb” as a headline act

Yet to work out if walking with corporate, comrades, or casual.

Edinburgh with the activist bloc is always best, but Glasgow Pride always feels different (bit too corporate).

"I'll be going feel it's important for me to support as an ally and it's important to bring positivity in the world."

That's nice to hear. Can I ask how you became a straight ally?

A lot of straight men your age wouldn't go to Pride, so I was just curious. Normally, I find a lot of straight men become allies through an LGBT family member.

Exactly

Pride month is an utter joke, we need to show far more respect for our veterans.

I forget. Maybe someone can remind me... how long are poppies worn for again?

Anyway, armed forces day was literally less than a month ago, fellas. Mark it in your calendar for next year if you genuinely give a toss.

Maybe pop down to pride and support the armed forces marching there, too.

One doesn't take away from the other and we don't need to pretend that it does.

Um... June is Armed Forces month.... quite sure people can find events to support armed forces in real life if they really wanted to.

Reminds me of all the men in March asking why there isn't an International Mens Day... *hint... there is πŸ™„πŸ™„

As the chap above me says, one does not detract from the other πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Some might say that's easier to say for those in opposite=sex relationships.

I don't see how one takes away from the other, and say this as someone who isn't particularly fond of Pride Month. It's just not a strong argument.

If someone wants to criticise Pride Month, they should focus on the topic alone, without having to rely on making comparisons to unrelated things.

Im sure it's armed forces day in UK, not full month

Pride should be same, one day, perhaps 28th June as history dictates

When it comes to deciding such things, the conversation really needs to be led by out gay men, lesbians, bisexuals currently in same-sex relationships, and trans people. When your actual, day-to-day safety depends on the visibility of this movement, especially as the groups facing the highest rates of violent hate crimes and the immediate risk of shifting legislative rights, your perspective on its goals is naturally grounded in a 365-day reality.

It's important to recognise the difference between identity and material vulnerability.

This.

I am currently facing having to use the men's toilets (and get regular kickings), there is a 225 year waiting list for trans healthcare, trans suicide is through the roof, particularly kids and a whole load of other bad stuff.

Veterans aren't suffering that.

A disproportionate amount of LGBT+ people are veterans.

As a former dependant (daughter and wife) I support veterans also the one doesn’t cancel out the other and yes June is armed forces MONTH observed in various ways by different organisations - I’ve supported them in doing so in the past myself.

And of course there are those serving and veterans who are lgbtq+ themselves

Friends and I are heading merchant city maybe mid afternoon as 2 of us sadly no longer physically able for marching but want to participate and support in our way

Why would you get attacked? I know plenty of gay people who choose not to go. It's not their vibe. Only about 20% of gay men in the UK are "regulars" who visit gay bars, clubs, or community events at least once a month.
