"Time to shut down all these bloody vape shops anyway. Bloody polluting the whole environment. How disgusting a 200 year old building survives all those years inc the war .. nobody thought to get a fire extinguisher or get the article on fire out of the building onto the street. So sad. We simply cannot have these huge fires burn out of control like this either, fire service hopelessly inadequately equipped .. those water hoses were literally doing nothing... Don't you dare blame the fire service!!!

You need to do you homework There was an atempt to put the fire out by a woman at the vape shop. Whether she was a worker of the shop or maybe someone from a nearby shop Im not sure . As for your last comment Im sure there will be an investigation into how the fire was dealt with but those poor guys who worked desperately to put the fire out need praise not criticism.

I stand corrected it was infact a male who initially tried to extinguish the fire at the vape shop

People tried to stop it. There’s videos. However they used the wrong extinguisher. They had ones for water, this was an electrical fire from the batteries. Unfortunately lithium ion battery fired are very difficult to extinguish. Have a look there hundreds of videos of battery fires. Add in old buildings with dated materials. It’s a recipe for disaster. Unfortunately it can happen; it does happen; and will no doubt happen again somewhere. Just be thankful there was no injuries in a blaze that big

I know, ive seen ppl complaining online about the firefighters "not doing enough" apart from it was a lithium fire, there was the massive lcd billboard on the roof, so they were prob told to hang back, as it fell through the building was probably the right choice

" I know, ive seen ppl complaining online about the firefighters "not doing enough" apart from it was a lithium fire, there was the massive lcd billboard on the roof, so they were prob told to hang back, as it fell through the building was probably the right choice" Firefighters have lost their lives in smaller fires so it was probably the right choice indeed.

"My daughter had her hair business in the building. So now ruined and will have to start from scratch. " I had an itch removal business. I’m going to have to start from scratch….. Jokes aside, I hope your daughter can be back on her feet asap, and has the best support from her insurance company, and hopefully the Scottish government.

When a lithium ion battery goes on fire there is little to nothing that can be done to stop it. The only way to extinguish it is total submersion in water, so all the fire brigade can do is spray water on it. They would've been on a loosing battle from the start. The heat generated by these batteries is do intense that the chances of containing it is zero. So on that note make sure you dont keep these batteries on charge overnight and please please please dont buy cheap replacement batteries or chargers on line.

Scottish government payment= taxpayers... Think we're all paying enough right now, and not covering 'vape' shops..

There were lots of innocent businesses affected.
