Hi everyone

Looking for some info on Thailand.

I’m heading to Bangkok soon and I’m looking for info on what excursions to go on, where to visit all over Thailand, what to avoid etc.

I’ll be going for a month so looking at different cities to stay in to.

Thanks in advance

There was a really helpful guy who used to share a guide he'd written. It was perhaps in the worldwide forum area, I don't recall.

There’s a worldwide section that would be better for this.

We’ve done bits of Thailand but not Bangkok.

However we can give some general tips.

First there’s blogs from Redcat and others to do with massages and all the SW stuff, it’s handy for what to look out for in terms of how to avoid stuff.

As for excursions, firstly avoid anything sold on the beach as a water activity. A common scam is the jet ski, they lure you in, you pay the deposit, you go out, and come back and it’s damaged. That’s because it’s wash away paint that hide damage and there was a report in 2024/25 of a guy taken at gunpoint to an ATM to empty his accounts over it.

Also anything you rent, take videos of its condition, never leave a passport as deposit.

Avoid tuk tuks, use apps like indrive and Grab.

Anything with animals, especially elephants, search if it’s ethical, don’t bathe or ride them as it’s not ethical.

There’s no swinging clubs in Phuket area, but it might be in the Bangkok area. We did use ThaiFriendly as an app for hook ups, we found a few, but you need to watch for the freelancers.

Buy a sim when you get there and bring an unlocked phone. You can get an eSIM in advance using airalo but it’s expensive.

There’s also Thailand WhatsApp groups for backpackers and divers that we use that’s handy for info.

Oh and if driving, get your IDP and wear a helmet. The police look for foreigners to fine to pocket the money. Don’t get caught out.

We actually had so much fun in the tuk tuks I’d say it’s a must do!
