Hi all,

I'm going to be in Edinburgh tomorrow for the weekend and have plans to see Edinburgh Castle but wondered what other cool spots there are to check out that could be recommended?

Places to eat would be greatly appreciated too 😋

Thank you! I'm staying pretty central so hopefully in the hub of the good places to see and eat!

Borders

I like the Royal Mile. I start at the top at the castle, I always go browse the shops, have a look around the toy museum, in both Christmas shops. Theres a lovely pub half way down just off the side I have lunch at (can't remember the name - utterly useless) then down to the palace. Walk slow to make it last ha

A walk along George St and into The Dome for a drink always does it for me.

Other nice areas to wander are Stockbridge, Bruntsfield & Morningside.

Also try the Whisky Centre, Camera Obscura, Dynamic Earth, Arthur’s Seat, National Museum of Scotland, Johnnie Walker Experience.

Plenty to pass the time.

That's a great shout! I saw online that the castle only takes around an hour and half to look at so a bit of a journey after would be a good use of time 😁

Edinburgh

Hey lovely.

Depends what you are into but a walk up Arthur's Seat or Carlton Hill if its not bad weather is worth doing.

Mary King's Close Experience is quite interesting if you are into History. One of my friends is a guide there so always recommend it as she's awesome.

There's galleries a plenty all very close to the Castle too and the Museum on Chamber Street.

There's also Scots Monument and Princess Streets Gardens . The Botanic Gardens are nice too.

There is a great Italian on the Grassmarket called Made in Italy, its my favorite place for pizza and not far from the Castle . You also have Mary's Milk Bar there too for the ice cream .

The Makars Mash Bar is popular. I've not been but a few friends really like it. Its on the road to Princess street from the castle.

Down by the shore at Newhaven isn't a bad shout if its a nice night. Lots of bars and places to eat. You can hop on the tram.

Edinburgh is pretty easy to get around on foot . Be prepared for steps if you're using Google maps!

Have a great time!

What do you like to eat. For Scottish,Markers Mash Bar, cellar door, the Palmerston, the Queens Arms.

Unless you are history buff I would bother with the castle a walk up the royal mile to the esplanade is enough.

You have to get ice cream and Mary’s Milk Bar.

A cocktail at the Balmoral or Calidonian or for a veiw John walker, Bar at W hotel or Nor’ Loft.

If you like whisky do the Johnny Walker experience or do a pub crawl on the royal mile 💜

Not cheap but The Witchery by the Castle is a superb place to dine.

For an excellent whisky selection recommend the Bow Bar in Victoria Street certainly not as sore on the pocket as some of the other hostelries around the Royal Mile. The Abbotsford on Rose Street is another decent shout.

Sadly the weather forecast for this weekend isn't great but hope you have a good time regardless

I just saw this! That is a very extensive list and will definitely see what I fancy. I love history so that sounds right up my street and the ice cream recommendation is particularly appreciated 😄

Thank you for those options! Anywhere to get a good Scottish Whisky is on the list and would love to try some of those places to eat too!

Ooooh thank you! I won't lie, but any time I go away, I sort of write off any cost as long as the experience makes you for it 😅

Hi all, just wanted to thank everyone again for the suggestions! I'm back from Edinburgh and absolutely loved it.

I checked out Calton Hill, the national museum, did the Johnnie Walker experience as well as visiting Edinburgh Castle where the views were breathtaking!

The Royal Mile was buzzing, I tried haggis for the first time which was... Interesting 😅 and had a deep fried Mars Bar too which I think I'm in love with 😂

I had a brilliant time and would to visit again ☺️

Erm... I didn't do it. I saw it from the outside, but felt weird going in in September 🙈😅
