Housing crisis

glasgow centre

I didn’t realise how bad it was.

My landlord has given me notice to quit as they are selling the property.

Social housing waiting list is years long and letting a semi decent property is an absolute fortune.

Anyone know any landlords or decent letting agents that may have some affordable property

If your in genuine dire situation, the council need to house you. They have homes specifically for this but you won't get a choice. It will be a take it or leave it deal.

If you would prefer some choice if it, maybe look at a room mate type thing or even consider buying? Buying doesn't need to be a 300k house. Mine cost me 90k and is a great place. I pay less for my mortgage than most pay in council rent £410

The council's just want to approve student flats and hotels, anytime anything social housing comes up they reject it.

Boils my blood they don't care about homeless people

Contact shelter Scotland or citizens advice. They will advocate for you and assist you through the process.

If you've only just been served notice you have a few months before landlord can start action. You DONT need to move out on the date of your notice. Landlord needs to take it to the tribunal and this can buy you a bit more time.

There are key dates in the process where your priority will rise. Happy to give advice in dm

In general terms you are correct but Sale of a Property is legitimate grounds for serving Notice and at some point the OP will have to move on. In some circumstances he may be allowed a bit of leeway but in today's market properties can sell quickly and we don't know the circumstances of the landlord who may be in difficulty themselves. Shelter are certainly good but in my experience the Citizens Advice Bureau are often well meaning but not so well informed. It's really a lottery which advisor you get, they are volunteers after all. The OP should make a Homeless Presentation to the local authority without delay, he is threatened with homelessness and entitled to full advice and assistance. This may include acxess to temporary accommodation although this may not be something he wishes to take up. He is also entitled to storage for his belongings and this can be useful if having to stay with friends/family for a period of time.

The situation everywhere is increasingly bleak and is the legacy of Thatcher's policies in the 80s. There's little consolation in knowing the cause it will take a major commitment from the Government to make meaningful change
