Just listening to some Cover Versions which made me think...

What song have you liked equalky, as much or more in the cover version than its original form?

I'll kick off with Cello Song - Nick Drake

(I never thought ANYONE could cover Nick's originality & unique expressive songs)

Then Jose Gonzales did a cover

(I knew instantly that I recognised those opening bars, but I was really taken by his interortation)

Then I found a remix of Jose's version which just blew me out the water

(By Mighty Mouse Remixes on YouTube).

So what's your fave covers? If possible add a link to YouTube or the heading it's under so others can have a listen.

An obvious one, is Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah, and absolute classic.

Some of my other faves.. Rammstein doing Depeche Mode's Stripped

Hellsongs do a pile of great ones, but their 'Run To The Hills' and 'We're Not Gonna Take It' are great.

A few others to check out...

Sweet Dreams - Emily Browning (eurythmics classic).

You're The One That I Want - Angus & Julia Stone (yes the number from "Grease").

Footloose - Blake Shelton.

I Try - Ben Taylor (Macy Gray song).

Common People - William Shatner (yes Cpt Kirk takes the Pulp song & beams it somewhere else entirely).

When You Walk In The Room - Agnetha Faltskog (ok I sneaked in an Abba reference).

Both Sides Now - Tina Arena (does Joni Mitchell proud).

Car Wash - Christina Aguilera & Missy Elliot (get your Friday night disco gear on).

The Whole Of The Moon - Mandi Moore (the girl from Tangled takes on The Waterboys).

The Impossible Dream - Luther Vandross (the man sings with strings).

Keep adding more folks. So far all your suggestions have been brilliant.

"Bauhouse doing Ziggy Stardust... fantastic version almost but not quite as gd as the Bowie version "

There's also a cover of Starman by Culture Club on the album "Cover to Covers:Songs of David Bowie". It includes others from Duran Duran, Midge Ure, Dandy Warhols.

Keep em coming - the Playlist is growing.

Found a ton of Boyce Avenue covers on Spotify - every one a cracker. Great shout. Could put Nikki in lead for sheer numbers of covers.

Anyone else top Nikki?

Oh one to bliss out too that is sung by Chris Pratt in "The Five-Year Engagement" movie. It's an old song originally done by Lola Beltran & covered most famously by Harry Belafonte. His live 7 minute version is stunning & so emotive.

However try All Angels version on the album "Fly Away" for a totally blissed out trip.

Fill the bath, light the scented candles, pour two glasses of a good wine & plunge in with a hot sexy body & relax. Thank me later.

Almost forgot about this one.

Billy Jean - Chris Cornell.

We've heard a number if folk do Cris' arrangement of Michael Jackson's hit but this is still the one that took that famous intro & those pounding bass beats & turned it into an amazing ballad with a dark, sinister flavour.

If you like Bette you'll love her "Songbook" covers of Rosemary Clooney & Peggy Lee.

She takes on Clooney with her usual fun approach, but Lee with a bit more reverence & less joie de vivre. Good companions though.

"House of the rising sun... nobody knows who wrote it.

The Animals made it famouse but iv never heard any original."

The closest I've found to an original/older recording is Josh White who does a grand job on this song.

I thought I'd add some other oldies/original/covers to this.

A Rockin' Good Way - The Spaniels; Brooke Benton & Dinah Washington; Shaking Stevens & Bonnie Tyler.

Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town - Johnny Darrel; Kenny Rogers

Groove Me - King Floyd; Fern Kinney

Go Now - Bessie Banks; Moody Blues; Wings.

Anyone got more of these?
