Passed away at the age of 69. Regardless of political disagreements he was an incredibly important politician in Scotland. No doubt he loved this country. RIP.

I am really upset about this and no idea why. Apparently collapsed when making a speech abroad.

Aberdeen

He was a giant in Scottish politics and would have been successful in Westminster. He came close to winning independence in the referendum but was sadly betrayed afterwards by 3rd raters who were jealous of his ability. May he rest in peace. My deepest sympathies go to his family & countless friends.

Love him or loath him he was without doubt a charismatic and passionate man who took his country to within a whisker of independence! No mean feat RIP

Such sad news. Layely he was a bit marmite but he was Certainly someone I had a lot of time for. A true Scottish patriot. Hopefully one day we will see his vision for Scotland play out.

Always a sad time when someone dies suddenly..but some of the praise is way over the top. Failed in his core objective in politics and life.. plus admitted to acting inappropriately on several occassions towards women during his career. So ill say condolences to his family but ill stop short of heaping undue praise on him.
