Glasgow

I remember when i first joined here, a Fab walking group was created with meets for walks being arranged in the Glasgow area. Is this still going? I went on a few meets and they were quite good. There was another thread about verifications, and it got me thinking that this would be a good way to socialise and get a wee bit of exercise in, and also give newbies a chance to be verified. Whats peoples thoughts?

I’m up for that and with so many people working shifts or WFH, I’m sure there could be walks arranged for weekdays instead of purely weekends.

As Glasgow has so many fantastic parks this could really work. I'd be up for it especially in this weather you need as much encouragement as I can to get out and Active!

i don`t know if more than one was set up, but the one i attended a few times, arranged walks in Glasgow city centre. one in Glasgow Green, and one in Necropolis. Organising one for the hill`s or mountains would take a bit more planning.

Wait and see what the response on this thread is like. the last one that was set up that i attended was the other way around, more women attended than guys, but it was a good crowd, had a laugh and joke while giving the legs a stretch.

yeah by all means spread the word, am sure if there`s enough interest we can organise something and make it happen. Once there`s enough numbers to make it worthwhile i can look at folks locations then try pick somewhere central for everyone and start doing some Recce`s for good walking spots, start off with some easy walks, and if folk are keen i could maybe find some areas that can take in some hill`s. It`s just an idea, i know it was done before in here and i quite liked it, so testing the water to see if it can be started up again.

This is the biggest hurdle.

In my opinion the risk is too great with regards to women’s safety. It wasn’t that long ago a friend of mine went for a walk with a guy who turned all creepy when he saw an old shed and tried to get her to go into it with him.

I’m sure a women’s only walking group would be a success and then it could grow from there to include verified guys but it would take some time to fully mix.

A guys only walking group would be as popular as a peanut in a jobby for obvious reasons

Yeah, it's definitely a concern I would have as a woman. Unfortunately there have been many incidents like the one your friend was in. I have been in a few dodgy situations myself which has even put me off meeting men from here. Which is a shame as I'm sure there are many decent guys here too.

There definitely are decent ones around, I’ve chatted to some at socials and at cj’s but it is always a worry for the women.

You’re clearly no daft and youl know it’s best to go down the social meet first route with someone knowing where you are etc. But have you tried the larger social events and getting along to a club like Cj’s or AD in Edinburgh? There are always other women going that would honestly be happy to meet you beforehand and go in with you.

Yeah I walked with this group. We had a kik group to arrange the day and time. This was pre covid, 2019.
