I could be wrong, but i haven't heard the man up phrase used towards guys in a long time, and i work in the building trade, were for years that was the response you did get.I think mental health issues are dealt with equally regardless of sex ,but im no expert.

Sorry Tony but that’s BS now, with the huge rise of men’s groups, Man chat and Men’s Shed’s, men’s mental health support networks have been widely available.

It’s only the ignorant and stupid amongst us that still have the ‘man up’ attitudes, we are in 2023, not 1953

If you've a andys man club near you there good for support

CALM is another good one for support

MIND also.

Thankfully there is more places for support than there used to be.

Also check if you have a local walk in mental health crisis centre.

Have you reached out? Or did you do the sane as I did and see that as a weakness?

I found once people know you'll get help, doesn't need to be professional most people today would help as we've all had some kind of issue or another.

But I get when your in the deep end it's hard to see people actually do care.

I'm your man right here!

Some really bad shit happened to me once that floored me, my only way out was an overdose.

Forget the swinging site and sex, you want someone to speak to that's been there hit me up.

I know how it feels and I'll try help anyone who is in a place I once was...

Can assure you that it's dealt with equally and in some instances more so for men, if this is your support circle and there answer is chin up man up etc then it's more to do with that support circle.

For the last 2 years I've been there with PTSD mental health issues that have pushed me to some dark places but via NHS and private support it has been an amazing experience to see where n what I've overcome and continue to overcome.

It's all about being honest and as a guy that's the hardest part having to admit your insecurities and vulnerable side to people.

Due to centuries of toxic patriarchy perpetuated by men themselves about what a "real man" is, while in parallel defining the expression of strong emotion as a weak womanly trait that needs to be 'fixed' or 'cured'; look up the history of hysteria and respective treatments - medical science has an ignoble obsession with the idea that women would be better if they could just be made more like men. Women have long been conditioned to the idea they need to be constantly improving themselves, men that they merely need to realise their inherent potential.

While doubtless pockets of this exist it's by no means the accepted standard any more, but it'll likely be a while longer before attitudes are changed entirely - for instance even in the OP men are referred to as men but women are referred to as 'females'. Equality is a while away yet.

Everyone at 1 point in life will suffer with some form of mental health issue and no1 should be judged for seeking help rather than trying to deal with it alone (not saying it can't work) hope you find the help you seek pal better days ahead

Because nobody cares about men, we're expected to just get on with it

Are you seriously insinuating that the ops use of the term "guy", whilst addressing to 'gals' as "females" is an example of male chauvinism?

What's your views on toxic femininity? - For example, the incredible amount of bitching, back-stabbing and character assassination that is carried out by the women on Fab, primarily against other women, whilst Men, on the "hole" just want their baws emptied.

No, I'm providing it as another example of societally embedded double standards that we frequently don't challenge.

I don't think I necessarily share your definition of 'toxic femininity' but there are plenty of readily available dissertations examining and explaining the underlying historical and cultural factors for the sorts of behaviour you're describing (mostly to do with 'competetive marriageability') that you should be able to find on the internet easily enough if you're interested in researching further.

Having been someone who has suffered with mental health problems, the only person who expects you to man up is yourself.

Your mind always has the perception that nobody cares or nobody wants to help but that couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Speaking out really helps and everyone is willing to listen. I even have a mate who’s a total heartless dick who was shocked to hear my admission and was a major help in getting me back on my feet

DUMFRIES

I spent years dealing with it myself, too ashamed to seek help. Then shit happened 2yr ago and I sought out help. It wasn't easy to talk about to anyone but it got easier and suddenly I wasn't ashamed any more. Those close to me know the score.

Think the ‘man up’ has long since passed, generally men are much more comfortable talking about it now than they would have done in the past,

She was simply giving a great account of our patriarchal society. Some men hate us speaking out.
