So summer holidays almost over .looking forward to getting back to a routine .starting the week of the 14th .looking for bit of help pt or gym guys to help me out (send me a we private mail if u can help ).also any 1 with a fit bit to do weekly challenges with.il be going morning walks mon tues(non sexual before any1 gets any ideas) time to sort the body and mind out

For me I've found classes work.

I need that motivation of a set time and being instructed what to do.

Les Mills classes are great fun and a real work out.

Also perks are nice. JD Gyms have saunas so after working hard it's a treat to relax for a bit in there after.

I've been doing a step challenge since April. Started with 10,000 steps per day for a week and then upping it by 250 steps every Monday.

With my work i do a min of 16thousand in a 9 hour shift so hitting 20 thousand is ok days i work .my 2 days off are a challenge tho

Pity you werent closer im off every monday and tuesday amd now with the schools going back im going back into my walking , gym swim routine.

I've been seeing a PT for the last 9 months and it's been a big help. I have back problems so he tailors my plan to suit what I'm able to achieve, and we've been really focusing on food for the last month or so. I track everything I eat so that I can see where I'm going wrong and when I'm doing OK.

Take two.

1.15 mins resistance bands/weights.

2.Rest 10 mins.

3.20 mins HIIT.

Do 3 to 4 times/ wk.

Plenty routines online.

But, you got to push it.

Good advice

Op I am the same I was dx with diabetes earlier this year, lost a fair bit of weight initially but have put some back on, I also need to get fitter too and it helps my Mh also. I’m looking to join my local gym next week, they’ve a 3 day free trial on at the moment so gonna do that first see how I go and then join properly is the plan.

As the lovely Jenni says small achievable goals are the best way to stay motivated. Steps, lbs/kilos (although I can’t get my head around kilos!) and inches too (sometimes I won’t lose weight or not much but I lose as much as 3” off a measurement?? Weird).

Plateaus are also totally normal, it’s your body adjusting to its new size, you’ll plateau and then a couple weeks later drop like 4lbs in one go!

Be happy to be an online buddy if you’d like? I could use the support too.

Ur " weight" on a scale will change or stay the same for many reasons.

Might sound like the most obvious thing in the world but pick something active that you enjoy and do more of it. So many people go to the gym and hate it. They just do it to lose weight, but if you hate something, you're more inclined to fall away from it eventually.

I've recently started playing badminton and I love it. Started off with 1 game a week and now I'm up to 2 games a week and maybe another at the weekend. 1 hour of that goes by so quickly and the calorie burn is ridiculous.

If that's too much then walking is one of the best things you can do. It's free, you don't need any equipment and you don't need to be in any shape to start. Aim for 10,000 steps as a minimum per day, cut back on the snacking, drink plenty of water and prioritise protein (keeps you feeling fuller for longer) and the weight will start to come off slowly but at least it's maintainable.

I've lost 7 stone over the last 12 months. Quickest way to burn your fat I found was weight training and a good thermogenic. Get your self in a decent diet, higher protein and I kept myself and a 200 calorie deficit. Follow a weight training/bodybuilding program and it'll soon come off you and you'll build the body shape that you want for yourself.

I go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week. Lift heaviest I can for my stage, with help and advice from a pt. My sessions vary between 30 and 45 minutes. My strength and fitness have improved, I’m losing weight and I feel amazing.

I walk around 10,000 steps a day and that is the only cardio I do.

Bear in mind, lifting weights boosts your metabolism for a longer period of time than doing a cardio session, which then accelerates more fat loss. If you take this route, up your protein intake

I have kettle bells and dumbbells at home. Never use them. My accountability comes from going out to exercise at a gym.

Done the exact same and never used them, signed up for gym and now in there 5 days a week. Wife loves the ladies who lift classes in the local gym.

The key is finding something that works for you.

There’s no point in signing up for the gym if you hate indoor exercise. There’s no point saying you’ll start a running programme if you don’t enjoy being out and running.

You need to start with what works for you - is it individual activity, or something with others? Do you love aerobic type activity or prefer some weight training or power yoga?

Then you need to set some realistic goals and find someone to help you be accountable for them. Record your progress and reward yourself as you reach your goals.

Good luck with whatever you decide is the approach for you.

Dont think you get challenges on fitbit now unless you sugn up to premium . I try get at least 15000 steps per day . Used to like fitbit challenge to get bit competitive x

Buy a decent waterproof jacket/trousers as well so that the fine Scottish weather does not put you off going for a walk. As I know the bad weather can not be very motivating.

Firstly you don't need to. Your pics are awesome and you have everything going on.

But it's always good for MH and general fitness. It's a really simple equation that is so difficult to stick to...eat less shit do more Phys.

Walking is massively underated. Do as much as you can. Do what interests you. If you like the beach go to the beach and walk. If you hate the gym, don't go but a body work out and HIT really tones you.

I got back to the gym for the first day today after a year out with injury and it's a tough gig trying to start.

Bear with it, give yourself 2 weeks to see subtle differences then measure again after 6. Be that strength or weight or toning. Don't get hung up on weight either. Look at how your clothes fit.

As I said you look great as you are. I would ping you a PM of a great dietician piece but I am an old fecker and therefore can't message you lol.

For me its mental health and feeling good about myself. Good angles and lighting in photos can hide jiggly bits. . Im trying to get back in to walking steps counting calories and macros. Day 1 today

The first step is always the hardest. I returned to the gym in Apr after almost 2 1/2 years due to injury/COVID. I was nervous at not being able to keep up in classes or not lift heavy enough weights. I needn't have worried as the staff and fellow members have been great at motivating me.

As someone has said, don't get caught up on your weight. I didn't weigh myself as I've had issues in the past with being obsessed on what the scales say. Now I base my progress on how my clothes feel. To me that's a bigger incentive to keep going. As I've said on my profile, "I'm a work in progress".

You'll get there, just take each day at a time and enjoy whichever exercise routine you plan on following.

I found this quote and it stuck with me. "It takes 4 weeks for you to notice a change. 8 weeks for your family/friends to notice. 12 weeks for the rest of the world to notice a change."

Try getting outdoors walk different routes find some nice county walks

Even try getting a friend to drop you off away from the house so you have to walk home then increase the distance

Walking is my main focus 20 to 25 thousand steps a day countin calories and macros then il add in weight training.i did it in lockdown and had great results.i find my motivation slips a few month into it and thats where i fuck up

I’m not paying money to go to a gym when I can walk locally most days and every evening after dinner. Sometimes I walk 4-miles in the morning and another 3-4 miles in the afternoon plus my evening walk which can be just over a mile. Cycling has also been a great help to me in recent years although I can’t do the 30 mile plus journeys unless there’s plenty of stops in between !!!

If your finding you slip off after a period of time maybe try changing your routine at the gym it may help as you have to refocus to make your body start working with new weights and movements.

I can't help but wonder where everyone gets the time for all these miles walking, running and cycling. Why I stick to exercising at home when I have 30 minutes to an hour free (and can be bothered).

I managed to lose over 6 stone in a year. Didn’t think I’d ever see my abs again! Just simple things like diet, increasing my steps and weight training helped so much. I’d be up for a steps challenge! Helps just adding that competitive edge to things

It can be difficult especially if you have kids to look after at night.

Things like going out a walk during your lunch break, taking the stairs rather than the lift, walking to the shops rather than driving etc. All those small things gradually add up.

I used to sit on a computer all through my lunch and when I went walking instead I found by the time I got home I had done between 10K - 12K steps. I usually average about 17K a day now. I get up two hours before my shift starts and go for a walk. I don't have kids though so it's easier for me!

Another vote for Les Mills classes.

The timetabled classes give me a routine that helps me stay disciplined.

The different classes give me a mix of HIIT, strength, and flexibility.

Running really helps me, but it's my least favourite.

I try to go for a weekly wild swim, and am hoping to do more swimming than just bobbing about.

Good luck OP, and everyoneelse. Schools are back - go for it.
