Obviously this doesn't concern everyone,or should it,no matter what age bracket you are in.I planned to retire in my mid 50s , but that is clearly not happening now, partly due to the economy at present, and partly because I didn't plan ahead, why didn't you plan ahead Dynamic i hear you shout, well cause im a nugget.Whats your retirement plans??

Edinburgh

I'll discuss my retirement with my employer at the time, for the Nth time, before dying a few days later.

Realistically, most of us aren't gonna get good retirements, unless you started a personal pension early or had a job with a final value pension scheme.

I retired almost seven years ago. It’s the best thing I’ve done and got into a routine of doing things each day with only a Friday being my day off as it were. Joined a walking group one day a week and love being with friends I’ve met there over the years.

Hope you’ve got a good pension and savings to keep you going throughout your retirement. And maybe you might find some other things to enjoy !!!

In the west.

I'm on it already. Well at least I'm giving up this job and taking my pensions.

I'm going to start the ball rolling on it this week.

I will still need to find some kind of job so I don't go absolutely insane.

I'm retired (male) after forty years service, and have enjoyed every day of the retirement club so far! I loved my job from the very first day, it was demanding, hectic most days with no two days ever the same, and it tested my endurance and brain.....whats left of it.....but enough was enough, and it was the right time to go? Like many others around my age, the old school, we payed into a final salary company pension with excellent benefits, protected status t&c's, etc, it's taken a long time, but it has now rewarded me with a very good income every month?

Unfortunately, as mentioned on this thread, many people will now have to work well into their 60's, and heaven forbid, their 70's? My advice to anyone that is still young enough, pay as much as you can into your pension, it really will be worthwhile in years to come? Pensions aren't get rich quick schemes, they're a long term financial commitment that will hopefully keep you in a decent standard of living in your retirement?

We've got five kids aged 22 to 30, and god only knows what faces them when they reach retirement age? It is very worrying for us as parents, as it probably is for millions of other parents too? I was very fortunate that my pension scheme was a very good one, unfortunately these days, those are very hard to find?

Good luck with your retirement plans guys, whatever they may be?

I'm going to go teach English in Vietnam in 2 years time, maybe less. How difficult can it be teaching 5 year olds to say hello for 20 hours a week?

Much more difficult that you would think.

I retired 6 weeks ago. I'm fortunate re pension, its index linked. Sometimes feel my identity is lost a bit but guess that's normal?

I'm loving the feeling of freedom, I'm looking forward to this new chapter, currently looking for a new house which is exciting.

I'm with you there. I was just in town and I was wearing a pair of shorts, everywhere I went u seemed to see guys wearing shorts and a kagool. I won't let that happen again, I want to be me and not part of a club as that is one of the reasons for giving up work n

I should have corrected my spelling, cagoule. Even with a French sounding name I still won't be wearing one.

Mr S here , I remember sitting in the office as an 18 year old with the pension advisor and the union rep saying “sign here this is you agreeing to join the pension of company X”. Many years of saying what am I paying into this for when i could do so much more with it at the time! Roll on after 34 years service and looking at the nice pension pot that is sitting there and now looking forward to the time when “I could” just say enough is enough I want to retire at 55 from the 5 days a week and like others have said get a couple of days a week job with no stress and just enjoy the free time, no I mean whatever DIY jobs the kids and Mrs S can come up with to keep me occupied.

MrsS on the other hand has no big pension pot and will have to work till she’s about 60’ish or whatever it is at the point of posting this comment

Mr S ?????????
