"Didn't see the prog but aspartame - main ingredient in many sweeteners - is thought to be carcinogenic. But the scientific community is divided. Guess like most things - everything in moderation." I agree with everything in moderation. Sweeteners have just as many carbs in as sugar so if you try a low carb diet steer clear. Having said that, there are fruits with a high sugar content as well so it's hard to know where to start. Someone will always find something wrong with something you like so moderation seems the best way forward.

"Didn't see the prog but aspartame - main ingredient in many sweeteners - is thought to be carcinogenic. But the scientific community is divided. Guess like most things - everything in moderation." I used to work it drug research and did a day thing on good lab practice and one of the examples of bad lab practice that was used was the American company who did the safety tests for aspartam. Not only did they not do the paper work right they in fact falsified what happened, rats who died were not accounted for. There were other things but I forget what, the thing is that because of what they did to make aspartame seem safe means that we don't have any idea if is or not. What is known is that about 1/3 of the population will have bad reaction to it, so if diet stuff makes you feel ill it'll be the aspartame. Its in a lot of stuff as it is cheap to make.
