Public Health Scotland has reported an 49% increase in gonorrhea case compared to 2019. With all the "cream pie lover" posts on Fab is anyone surprised? Wrap up folks.

Before causing panic, remember, covid happened- less testing, likely less random hook ups happening...so, no, I'm not surprised

In context though that is only based on people who go for testing. There’re may be many more with undiagnosed STIs who show no symptoms.

Definitely wear a condom. Everyone should be taking responsibility for their own sexual health. I always carry condoms as it’s surprising how many guys don’t.

Wouldn't you have expected a decrease taking that into consideration.

But the OP was comparing figures with 2019. Before the pandemic and lockdown.

I would have expected a decrease, has a lot of people stopped meeting during covid and are more cautious even after.

From the figures released it would appear that post covid more people are less cautious and shagging more and more without protection..

The figures seem to say that. But reading from posts, people claim they are meeting less or just getting less offers the pre-covid.

Yeah and lockdown you would have thought folks not meeting that transmissions would go down and possibly die out but as we’ve seen every virus and big around has only gotten worse since we all took involuntary bubble

Nothing turns me off more than the amount of men and women on here who seem to have no interest in their own or others sexual health. Working in a field where STIs are part of my job, it doesn’t surprise me in the slightest with what I see on here. These are just the figures we know as well. All the people who don’t and never test. Must be riddled

Safe sex for many is just a tick on the profile

I have been ridiculed more than once for insisting on safe fun and that means oral but it's your health

Many unaware of the long term issues of STIs many think a course of treatment from the doc clears it all up

Be safe

Going by the numerous "I/we love cream pie" posts, glorifying unsafe play, I think the figure will be a lot higher.

People genuinely thinking an increase in STI detection is the powered by the mainstream media is on par with flat earthing.

I’m Bi, and the number of MSM than say ‘I’m on Prep so no condom needed’ is absolutely shocking. Any infection that could be avoided is bad, so why not avoid it…

You see in the hot pics all the time. The same people. Older. Different partners and not a condom to be seen. The pregnancy risk may not be there, but the STI risk is. Sleep about with whoever you want, but don’t think you’re not at risk from some of these infections and diseases, and if you do go unprotected, well then you deserve all you get!

Agree, up to a point.

I don't think anyone "deserves" an STI though. Folk do stupid things all the time and make poor decisions.

If you are frequently doing it and are one of these people who constantly ask for bare back or cream pie orgies, then yes, I do believe you deserve all you get.

If you are the person that always normally does play safe, and gets carried away in the heat of the moment, then that is a stupid mistake if it ends up you do catch something.

I don't think banning conversation about unsafe sex will make these people have a change of heart and suddenly start using condoms.

I think there should be more of a ban on profiles openly selling drugs and in what area etc rather than the BB, cream pie ones. That at the end of the day is down to the individuals, their preferences and their ability to make decisions. Dealing drugs is illegal and they don’t ban them. They should!

So this increase in STI's is solely down to the barebackers on fab? Somehow I doubt it. The people that use Fab are a tiny drop in the ocean when it comes to random hook ups in the UK.

Ultimatly people are responsible for thier own saftey. If you want to use a condom then do so. If you don't, then don't. The only way to remain completely safe is to abstain completely.

Wouldn't make a difference. People will do what people want to do. Rightly or wrongly. Having the site do more promotion of it will do nothing.

This is another reason why so many women don’t want to play with bi men, gay and bi men are historically thought of as being unsafe and more promiscuous than than the average male and your comment about guys saying to you, I’m on prep so other forms of protection aren’t needed just shows the either extreme lack of education or selfish I don’t care attitude of many

The amount of guys over the years I’ve met that have turned up and like I don’t have condoms ! Well good job I have

You guys know what size condoms fits you best, and it’s easier for you to get the right fit and then also add in some latex and allergy free condoms to your collection !!

However have to admit I am guilty of oral without, it’s still a risk not as much as penetrative sex but it’s still very much a risk so even though I use condoms I still have my check ups

Mind you the lack of sex recently puts me in the safer sex bracket

Excellent, reasoned response, Falcon 43...

I carry condoms with me always in my ' Man Bag ', even to " Fab Friday Fun Day " at Ayr races.. lol ...

I'd rather face minor embarrassment of someone seeing a condom fall out of my ' Man Bag' while I'm searching for something else, than the consequences of STIs !

"

But the OP was comparing figures with 2019. Before the pandemic and lockdown.

I would have expected a decrease, has a lot of people stopped meeting during covid and are more cautious even after."

the article actually has a graph that shows this. The numbers were rising very roughly at 20% a year from 2013 onwards, they drop significantly in 2020 and 2021, then in 2022 they jump back to roughly the level they would have risen to if 2020 and 2021 had been "normal" years and each had risen 20%.

Whatever people were doing to increase cases 20% a year theyve gone straight back to doing as if covid hadnt happened. The article clearly says the increase isnt down to antibiotic resistance

i know there are asymptomatic people out there but i dont think thats hiding a higher proportion if cases. It's supposed to be a horrible condition to have if the symptoms are bad, so if you know youve got it youll want someone to fix it. i read a lot of comments during lockdown from people struggling to access GUM services when they really needed help, particularly in Edinburgh.

For anyone interested in the finer details, the full report is available at the PHS website: https://publichealthscotland.scot/publications/gonorrhoea-infection-in-scotland/gonorrhoea-infection-in-scotland/

I think the key takeaway for me is just how badly hit the testing services were. I’d guess that a large % of the uptick comes from people who engage in unprotected sex and who were not able get tested.

Also worth noting that at the beginning of the pandemic the uptick is clustered around Gay/Bi/MSM, but that more recently this has been levelling off. Probably not a surprise given how busy Grindr was during 2020
