Travelling to Edinburg next weekend arriving early on Friday the 4th March. First time in Edinburgh as have only visited Glasgow many times before. What has your city got to offer and where would you advise an Irish man to go to witness the best of your city?

It really depends on what you're looking for.

There's so much to do in Edinburgh.

The Fab trip adviser ??

Oh something to do during the day, good restaurants, nice pub that isn’t full of 20 year olds getting twisted and throwing up in the toilets ??

Simple stuff really.

Gilmours and Cafe Royal are nice and slightly off the beaten track. For food, there's plenty.

Avoid the mile and Grassmarket. Tourist tat a plenty and lots of very expensive bars.

Cheers mate. Exactly the type of info I’m looking for. Edinburgh has a great rep so want to see the best of it. I know I am a tourist but that isn’t what I’m looking for.

So are Friday afternoons in Edinburgh similar to other city’s where the pubs are busy after work where people go straight out?

Yep. Rammed. Lots of stag and hens. They generally go to Grassmarket, Cowgate etc. Rise Street is also a tourist trap. West end of that is better, less touristy.

There's 'pubic corner' at Bread Street if you want adult entertainment, but there are some nice bars on Lothian Road and Tollcross.

Very good info to know. I’m trying to steer clear of the hens and stags if possible. They get too messy.

You are so very right, sorry about that. I had the weekend of the 4th in my head when I was writing it but do arrive on the 3rd for the weekend.

Getting me confused as I’m out on the 3rd which I was sure was the Friday

Incidentally if your arriving on the Friday afternoon, and if you like Dr Who, there’s an event on from 6.30pm at the museum called A Night Of Science and Wonder with a talk about it and ticket includes entry to the Dr Who exhibition

Ah in fairness I do want to actually see some of your city. Plenty of time for the other later that night

Where are you staying?

Are you planning an all day and night session or just the evening?

Market street I think it’s called. They’re for the weekend. Want to see what the city has to offer. No plan for a session during the day but I’m open to offers if there is banter to be had

A day along Rose Street and George Street as that's pretty central.

Pubs are normally bustling.

The Evening the Grassmarket, then you can go up or down the way.

If you do fancy it, you will need to book it. Easy enough just Google The event and the details of where to book will come up

And how does a tourist get invited to an event like this? do I need to message the organisers?

"Are you doing a club while you are here? "

All options are on the table so just looking for what the city has to offer, I’m easy going so will go with the flow. If there are parties that I can attend then great but if they are all booked out then so be it. It’s my first time in Edinburgh so just trying to get a sense of the city.

I will look into that secret pup tour though. That’s sounds like it’s right up my street

As above a couple decent places to try for a drink are Cafe Royal and Voodoo Rooms. We tried these the last time we visited and will probably return for a drink when we visit again this weekend. Enjoy your visit!
