Here, There and Everywhere

Hire one, just a basic package. Usually you have it for 2/3 days and it's around £30

A one kilt hire. They should be fine for what you need it for.

I’m addition to above, you can sometimes pick up cheap ex-military kilts; try Adventure1 in Dundas Street, Glasgow.

Slanj in Glasgow have done kiltwalk specific deals in the past. Worth keeping an eye out.

I've done the Kiltwalk before and although I have my own kilt I ended up buying a cheap £20 one from eBay as if it were to rain you could ruin an expensive one.

Use a cheap kilt from eBay even if it rains it does not get so heavy when wet as a proper kilt

Good point, you’d easily find one in one of the tourist merchandise shops

Having done quite a few, take a back pack, a sporran rattling off you for 26 miles can be quite sore!!

Montrose

My first kilt was an ex hire one.It was in really good condition and I picked it up from a hire shop for £90. A good quality kilt made in Scotland and not a cheap one from Pakistan.

Either Armstrongs in Edinburgh or one of the cheap tat shops for a pretendy one. They’re not bad just for cutting about in.

Edinburgh

I got a fun LGBT rainbow 16th century style kilt. Great for swingers events.

Ex hire purchase is the way to go. Usually good quality and a range of tartans. I bought one 25 years ago. I've worn it to dozens of matches all round the world and countless other hogmanays and boozy events. It's been saturated in beer constantly and slept in hundreds of times. Still going strong. Lol I have a nice one of my own tartan for weddings and more formal events. You won't go wrong with a good ex hire kilt, it'll be a friend for life. The cheap ones are shite, like everything else built cheap.

The times I’ve done it women were wearing gym leggings with tartan mini skirts

Just another tip wear thin cycle shorts or something to cover your inner thigh, after 23 miles wearing a kilt can be uncomfortable
