DUBLIN

Thinking of doing this road trip in the spring or late summer. Just wondering where the best bits are, hotels to stay in, pubs for eating. Have a notion too to go over to Norway from Scotland. Think there is a ferry. Any advice welcome please.

Falkirk

Wait till the summer to go to Norway.

Spring can still be bitterly cold.

I've been from Stavanger to Hammerfast. The scenery is stunning. Can be expensive, but if you plan ahead you can get decent deals.

From June to October you will be eaten alive by midges, there are far better scenic drives than the 500 which everyone seems to want to do.

If your heart is set on doing it then there will be less traffic in the spring

Inverness

Nc500, invented by a company to make money.

Overrated, limited facilities,if you want to go for a drive, go for a drive.

Norway I would expect would be much, much better.

near Glasgow

There are other drives, the north east and south west. There's not the high hills, but the scenery is still quite spectacular.

We’ve done it twice. Love the scenery, beaches and also popping off the NC500 to discover other bits.

Many people used to start and finish the NC500 from the New County Hotel in Perth using it as a starting and finishing destination and this hotel was named in NC500 tourist information.

Sadly due to the fire yesterday in the hotel this place will be out of action for some time to come.

I done it a few years ago but I went wild camping for more fun.

It's a holiday I would definitely do again. Make sure you stop by the ice cream parlor in Johno groats.
