At this present time I would say yes he is but over the years there have been a few i'd class the same ...i dont think you will ever be able to pick just 1 as the game has changed alot over the years so I would simply say he joins a band of great players

possibly one of the best ever to play in scotland along with the likes of laudrup, gasgoine, jinky etc

but to put things into perspective...brian laudrup wasn't even the best player in his house

Not the most informed or biggest football fan in the world but I do enjoy watching him play. Gets knocked about from start to finish of games but always gets back up and doesn't complain. Hurts other teams by putting ball in back of net, obviously he gets more exposure than players in bygone age but if there was ever another player better then they must have been awesome to watch

Messi, 1, Maradona the cheating bastard 2, Pele 3 then we get on to people like Beckenbaur and the likes. What about Pat Jennings as a keeper? Still a football player. Larson was great in Scotland, but you have to remember he was playing teams like Dundee...lol

Messi is the best player in the world at the moment but I don't think you can compare him to players from the past - the game has moved on soo much. But if he's not the best the world has ever seen he's gotta be damn close.

And I do love to watch him run rings round folks his game is effortless

in fairness to Larson, although a million miles away from being best player ever he had 2 touches in a champions league final against arsenal that won trophy for Barcalona

Godfrey Chitalu is the guy you are talking about. The zambian fa says he scored 107 in 1972 i think it was and brazilian club flamengo have also came forward to state their striker zico scored 89 in 1979

As for henke, SAF tried many a time to take him to Manu, got him eventually but only for 6 months, not that he didn't want him for longer, but henke didn't want to stay.

Also ask any barca fan what they think of him, they think he's a hero!

Anyway back to original question, best player ever, what is it they say "the truth lies in the eye of the beholder", too many great players and messi is among them along with Zidane, Gullit, van basten, beckenbauer, platini, maradonna, pele, best etc etc etc
