I worked in Marryhill in Glasgow, Springburn direction... was totally awful, would hate to live there. Where is your worst place?

Went to sheffield once for a night out and got a kicking just because i was scottish. There are rough places most towns and cities you go to. But i agree with you on certain areas of glasgow. Not a city i am fond of if i am being brutally honest. Much prefer edinburgh myself

Pubs with no windows were a decision of the breweries who funded them in the first place and it isn't that long ago that even if a pub (or a bookies) DID have windows, they had to be made so you couldn't see in from the strets.

I work within the community of north Lanarkshire and some of the places I visit are pretty horrid ..but that's down to bad people and not the area ,in fact there are some petty pleasant people who live in these places who are respectable and decent people x

ive stayed, and still live in one of the most deprived areas of glasgow. ive been brought up properly and have nothing but respect for the people that live around me. some may have fallen on hard times but who am i to judge, some of the best people i have met have stayed in deprived areas so basically i dont judge a book by its cover and i think this post is a wee bit sad but each to their own i suppose

I actually do agree with your opinion sense why I did not name a bad area. I work in one of the most deprived areas in Glasgow helping people with there claims to benefits and such as. Now I was brought up in Govan and I am a single parent who is severely struggling. So therefor I understand and help people out the best I can. 90% of the people from the area I work in are wonderful, yes poor but, cheerful even though they are penniless and decent people. Who are we to judge after all you never know whats round the corner.....appreciate what you have it could be a lot more worse.

I live in a housing scheme near Dalkeith which has been called by some people bandit country, yes it has it's rough element but I have the nicest neighbours. Before that I lived in a wee paper mill village in a tiny mill workers flat, again the nicest of people lived in the block. I was sorry to leave but the flat really was tiny.

pmsl g i live in a tower block and i am very glad i do my neighbours are diamonds and i have no garden to worry about, a cummunual park for those that have children secure entry and concierge to look after community areas live in a supposed horrible place but its home and i love it

Yep went out with a lovely guy, very intelligent, went to Cambridge ect came from the Edinburgh illiteratey, his friends were some of the worst people I've ever met, didn't like me because I didn't go to uni or speak 3 langues, they spent the whole time we were going out looking down their noses at me and pointing out I didn't go to the right school....blaaa life is too short for that nonsense.

We're from Paisley, which in recent years has had some bad justified and unjustified) press, and are fiercely proud of our town.

Yes, there are some elements which drag the place down, but there are just as many "Good Buddie's" who shine and keep that smile on their faces, and can lift the spirits of those around them by exuding goodness and kindness.

The destructive people can be found in all walks of life, not just the slums so to speak....when you move to the posh parts , the only difference is they can afford a better class of drugs!

Take Ferguslie Park, reputedly to be one of the worst areas in Scotland...Yet it has given the world people like Joe Egan (singer/songwriter)

Gerry Rafferty (singer/songwriter)

Kelly Marie (singer/songwriter)

John Byrne (artist and playwright)

and not to ignore Billy Connolly who spent many many times there.

Anyways, I digress.....what im trying to say is look a bit deeper when you think a place is a bad place, as it may be a lot better than the place you are right now!

I stayed a night in Govan with rioters running through the street.

Attended a New Years Party in Pilton and someong got shot in the Gunner

Neither one of those incidents made these areas stand out as the worst place in Scotland for me because these actions were by the minority.

The worst place on Scotland would be somewhere nobody takes a minute to pass the time of day, nobody returns a smile and most importantly everyone forgot to say please and thank you.

Hutchie C was designed by Basil Spence. Admittedly it was to a "Mediterranean" design but he ain't Spanish.

Lots of places in Glasgows southside I wouldnt want to live in. Penilee for example, I really don't like it. But, a new research student at the uni who is intelligent, well spoken & thoroughly nice is from there.

There are definitely lovely people in some of the deprived areas, no doubt about it but I still wouldn't want to live there, given the choice.

Btw, although lots of the southside of Glasgow does not appeal to me, I'm from there & still live there & I do rather like it. I have a nice, quiet wee place with very pleasant neighbours, in among bandit territory haha.

A lot of this boils down to economic muscle, you have people mortgaging themselves up to their necks as soon as they can afford it to move to so called "better areas" which are mainly dictated from school league tables,moving from one sort of closed society or "shithole"to another,many of these people then like to look down on others to make themselves feel better about their overpriced property. As many have said on this post already ALL AREA'S have their share of socially unproductive types, there are good people everywhere , we should not be so judgemental, as it is not a residents fault, that an architect was having a wet dream !!! Rant now over.

Lived in Kent, London and a few places in Scotland. The north wins hands down on scenery. But loads of dodgy areas and crap architecture. Some great places too, Princes street is gorgeous.

That ferguslie park or easterhouse or possil are just as safe with the same people as newton mearna and bears den.

People do make an area good or bad and some areas have a higher percentage of scum than others.

Im from ferguslie park and although alot of decent people there lets be under no illusion there are more scum, more neds, and more bad people than say bearsden r milngavie. Thats why it has a higher crime rate a higher police presence and is more run down

Stop living in a PC mindset and start Being honest. Places are shitholes because people livin in them make them that way

My own personal opinion, having grown up on a pretty dodgy estate in Edinburgh and now living on the edge of a really rough estate is that whilst there are still good people then it is not the end if hope for that area. Estates can be won back from Neds, drug dealers etc it only takes a few in a community to take a stand. That, to be perfectly frank is not PC crap it is believing in mankind.

Coatbridge is an absolute s?!thole.

As another poster stated, it has a lot to do with the architecture, and not the residents.

Weather hailes in Edinburgh pretty scummy, but the park head area of Glasgow has to be the worst in scotland, which also has the highest crime rate in the strathclyde region, per head.

Edinburgh and Aberdeen have a much higher standard of living.

Eh shut up dnt think so if it that bad move out ffs dnt think if I thought a place I lived was so bad id still stay there and yea I have a lot of relatives that stay there most of my family and friends stay there my opininn and you have yours hence the forum
