Not had that message, but think it may be a scam. So just ignore....I'm sure it won't be any hardship should they decide to charge and you stop using it. Cos that's what I would do.

Hi, I just got the message too, reads like a scam but then it says to check your contacts list and people will be unavailable. So I did and they are.... Will just stop using it if I have to pay.

Given they run the servers, theyre not doing a very good job of tracking the scammers, which in itself is worrying, if they can send unknown people on Whatsapp msgs whats to stop them sending malware

As of 2013 it us supposed to be a chargeable service I was 1.79 when I bought it way back for iPhone the android versions were free it is only the android and bb versions that are to be charged apparently

For a scam it's pretty convincing, they are able to screw with your contacts ie seems to be able to generate errors like they described
