With whats going on in the world, is anyone actually religious on this site and believes in a god no one has ever seen? not just christian, but muslim hindu and cathlic.. sure theres many more ..

and if so can i ask why you believe!

i'm non religeous in any shape or form so i guess i believe in myself.....religion, in my opinion, just causes trouble and hatred between different sects....even on a site like this, bigotry and sectarianism is rife

without beleif in something, none of us would be here...and I'm actually not too sure without it we would all be safe as much as we are.People(in the masses) need hope to survive...left to the conundrum the obscure nothingness isnt really many peoples idea of a driving force to survive.We seek unity, somewhere along the way with others, but free-will juxtaposes any sense of preplanned balance.

I think the world could be a much colder place without religion, unfortunately religions dont see spirituality as a more acceptable term for a belief in something 'greater' that is not some omnipotent deity.

Religion isnt causing THAT much of a dent in the world as a whole...unless it went full scale nookularr, but the absence of belief..I dunno...thats when most peoples rights and wrongs become scary.

I believe religion is a good thing it gives some people boundaries and rules by which they follow without it there would be anarchy if people truly were religious they wouldn't fight or cause wars after all no religion condones violence or revenge

People use religion as an excuse for power, greed money you name it

Personally I don't have any particular religion im actually athiest i guess thats the scientist in me however I try to respect others who do as have friends who are of many different religions and beliefs and try to learn a little about all religions though my kids could tell me so much more as we often sit and research many things as a family and religion is one of them because I don't want my children brought up ignorant and disrespectful my 6,8,10 year olds have more sensible heads on their shoulders than many grown adults

I was brought up my mixed religious parents.

They Never pushed any religion on me.

But in a way i felt cheated

Sø Thats why my kids have been bought up to beleive there is a god and to respect his way...ie...tell the truth...be kind to others and so forth.

They Will go to mass until they decide they dont want to.x

im a catholic, but not a particularly good one. i break the commandments all the time, i rarely go to chapel, and as an intelligent mind i question the writings of the bible about creation of the world against what science tells us actually happened.

but i never waver in my belief, and that i think is the whole point of it, its about having faith. when im feeling low or needing help then i do turn to god, likewise when I'm thankful for something i thank him.

if it turns out there isn't a god, then i know i wouldnt feel at all let down, as irregardless my faith has helped me steer my way through some difficult times.

This is a tough one for me. I'am from a catholic family, last time i went to a mass was erm a long time ago! Im not ashamed to say i say alittle prayer each night but its my own twist on it and no where near word for word to the bible.

I've had 2 major accidents in my life, wether it was luck or fate i don't know. I was told id never walk again, determination and in a weird way i said alittle prayer it gave me alittle hope and here i'am walking/talking albeit still in pain. I had a really bad car accident,first thing i did was pray and then started screaming. No-one could understand how i came out alive (no broken bones, no injurys) the car went up in flames.I had completely forgot my aunt had given my a cross(can't rem the offical name of it) but she said it would keep me safe. I'am not sure about religion, i like to do what i believe in and it seems to work.

Wanted to add, the catholic church would be ashamed of me, i don't go to chrurch weekly, i use condoms, i do naughty things, i have a naughty job and there is ALOT of things im against within the catholic religion. One thing i have always noiced though is when there is a bad time, how everyone ralleys round to help/give support. I liek to do a good deed daily, wether that is giving a cup of soup to the homeless man on the corner, give a box of cakes to the ladys in the chemist (who always help me)pop in for a cuppie with the old lady along the road. Feed the horses near to me that no-one else does.

I feel if everyone in the world did just one good deed in a day i think our communitys would be a much nicer/happier place.

these wars so many are speaking of that were fueled by religion, well they are whats made much of societies today arent they?? plundered conquered etc etc

can we judge the past such as the wars of empires etc hundreds and thousands of years ago?... now if we are talking about our most recent histories, theres nothing religious about them..of course giving them religious reasonings helps control subjects.

its a bit contradictory for one group to call another group fanatics(ie taliban etc), when out own troops are fighting 'in the name of queen and country'-anyone who believes its for queen and country I think is misguided...as its about greed,manipulation,misinformation, and that goes both ways(to the 'other' side').

We are so quick to judge religious culture but will complain about the lack of morals in society.There is no perfect balance...utopia does not exist...if it did we would be bored most likely and be living in a fascistic environment.

like I say, I'm atheist in my beliefs, what comes with that is also a lack of belief in the pearly gates...we might laugh at that, but for some thats what holds them together.

How many atheists here attend weddings,funerals etc?-u know how horrible it would be dismissing someone elses beliefs...just as much as they can argue there is a bit more to the human(or conscious mind)and our connectivity to eachother than science can tell us.Science cant tell us why most of us do not wish to die alone, after all...its been explained that we are just pretty much advanced animals procreating in a survival of the fittest world...why would it matter that we get a send off from a loved one or a stranger in their last moments...and why the hell should we wish to be with them when they die?

I regularly attend wedding, funerals, naming ceremonies etc, some of which are in churches, chapels and so on.

I don't participate in the stand up/ sit down/ repeat after me/ call and answer/ in out in out shake it all about hokey y nonsense.

I go to support my pals/ shipmates in their moment of joy or their hour of need. Nothing more.

In their defence, I've yet to meet a Padre who objected to my presence on that basis.

I know what you're getting at, but as I say my earlier reply was to someone who was trying to claim it was a belief, which is kind of a pet peeve. Normally when someone does that it's to try set up an argument about 'belief systems' and then try to put the onus on an atheist to provide evidence for their 'belief' when in reality it should be the other way around.

its both a positive and negative force

religion divides and unites

its been used wrongly and correctly

it has its place with some, has no place for others

the only problem is those that become fanatical, from the atheist to the religious:

*fanatical in the non belief types would mean quantifying others as lower than themselves as 'stupid'(and thats just a fallacy as we know many of our scholars throught history were religious and intelligent people)

then there are the religious fanatics, who will read everything written by doctrine and go against what is basic human emotion.

throw in money,power and influence and u get a mix of sociopathic sorts willing to bend things to their own needs. i.e Nazism and communism.

most of us sit in between, we know some things are right when they are wrong and some things are wrong when they are right- its when u become fixated on one way and only ONE way that its realized its never going to work.

I dont believe in god, have no religion at all, but do appreciate what people are saying about morals. I have very high morals that were drummed into me as a kid,Religion didnt do it but i know it can help young kids to realise right and wrong, and as an adult you may need something else when you are struggling.

Its not for me at all, if there was a god i feel the world wouldnt be in such a sad state, if he did make it, he wouldnt have let it collapse into a war torn place where children die in such awful ways or sit back and watch the gang cultures... sad but its us thats fucking this planet up and our quality of life.

As someone said before its the twisting of Religion normally to benefit a power hungry or hate filled individual(s) that cause violence and war..

Was hoping this didn't turn into the usual insult passing game that certain folk always resolve to but heyho, As a Catholic who regularly attends mass but doesn't live life by the book I take from my faith what comforts me.. what right has anyone to 'slate' or attempt to 'disprove' any aspect of my beliefs?..

What i haven't read,is one of your jokes ridiculing any other religion.

As i said,it was dissapointing,and to be honest out of character,coming from you.

Obviously evil and suffering are a result of free sinful choices of human beings. God gives us a free will and allows us to choose between good and evil.

God is in the business of turning all evil and suffering for His greater good, glory and purposes that are beyond human understanding.

There are many things that the finite mind of humans will never be able to understand until they get in to heaven. God is omniscient and we are not. We must trust Him with the elements of life that are too complex for us to understand.

wow your clever, did you put them in a search engine and discover their origins?? some lad eh. whats your point? is there rules to where we get information?? after all, all information is extracted from somewhere is it not? unlike your bigoted spew this was in response to why god allows suffering in the world! not your sick comments about abuse.

No rules about where info is found but personal integrity would suggest that, if you're posting someone else's words, you should at least point out they're not yours.
