Curious to find out how much roughly in different areas it costs for a gents short back and sides, ladies trim and make up services ? Have a friend at college who’s starting out struggling to find somewhere to get a placement and suggested going mobile, she’s doing hair/make up/beauty already has some gents cuts under her belt and is great at make up. What would you expect to pay for these and does anyone do gents barbers mobile or is that asking for miscommunication? Does anyone work mobile on here ? Is it worth it ?

I work Mobile doing ladies hair and absolutely love it, I charge roughly what the salons charge around this area in north Lanarkshire as I'm running a buisness, tell her not to undercut herself when charging as there's stock to pay for, petrol costs and not forgetting her time.

This area makeup folk are charging anything between 25-45 depending on lashes etc and if she can do hair and makeup together she will do very well

I would think portfolio of work good website and social media advertising is key along with word of mouth.

Wedding parties are always crying out for hair and make up specialists.

Perhaps it might be a good marketing tool to go along to wedding fairs and see what others are charging..

My hairdresser was mobile (now renting her own place).

Can be a lot of hassle, carrying all her own kit, set up etc in people's own homes, fuel costs etc.

Charge the same as she would in premises, possibly a wee bit more. Promote it as a bespoke service in the comfort of their own home...she's saving them time and £ by being mobile.

Be very firm with appointment times. Folk are more relaxed at home so gab more and fart about without realising she's still working.

Definitely have a cancellation policy & take deposits.

I’d agree with this used to work in this kinda area, if they’d like this type of work/clientele the bridal boutiques and hotels that are venues etc are often happy to take flyers/business cards to give out. There’s a lot of networking in this area.

Cut my own hair nowadays (yes you can tell, eff off cheeky) but my local barber (with shop) charges £15 for a basic cut.

Don't think he does make up

though I'd like to get my nails done if anyone is offering.

I've not been to a butcher, sorry, barber for at least 25 years. And haven't used a hairdresser for about 18 years. Last time I paid a barber it was £8 and last time I used a hairdresser it was about £40 but I was generous and gave them £50 if I thought they did a good job.

Personally I wouldn't pay someone a good rate of they claimed to be an expert in more than 1 trade. I can understand wanting to get as many customers as possible but if you have a defined profession you can command a better fee.
