Thats a huge part of it. Despite what anyone says Scotland is a natural resource rich country with huge earning potential currently siphoned off my Westminster.

Theres lots to do with the "shame" of being the PM that broke up the UK as well which will make anyone in that position fight tooth and nail to protect their reputation, but with someone as tawdry as Johnson in the hotseat I reckon they wouldn't even touch the sides.

do or not.

As a rule I try to get on with anyone no matter what we agree or disagree on. Doesnt seem like I could say the same about you, but its fine.

I genuinely do think you could do with learning a bit about how politics work, it certainly can't hurt. A better educated population is a good thing, as well as it helping personally.

I wish you all the best. It could be a scary time seeing all the lies you believe coming undone, but itl all be worth it in the end :D

For a bit of context, the above is from a private conversation the above has made public without consent, I assume to try and embarass me maybe? I'll do her the courtesy of not sharing the transphobic comments she made in private, but it was a general "anti-woke" tirade.

Hopefully sanity can resume and a bit of common sense debate can take place perhaps?

It doesn't make for especially pretty reading. I definitely wouldn't be proud of any of it.

Like I said, it's 2022, trans or gays having the same rights as you doesnt take away any of yours. It isn't a pie. There's enough to go around.

Bring what on? This isn't personal. I don't know you.

How you vote is your business, but when you start sharing bigoted views or getting simple facts about how government or the economy works matters.

Opinion is opinion, but it shouldn't ever be about who can shout the loudest regardless of how wrong they are.

Whos trying to take away any of your rights?

Of course womens rights matter, but why do you think they matter anymore than anyone else's?

Somebody wanting their preferred pronouns to be recognised doesn't take anything away from you unless you let it and take it as a personal attack, which is isn't.

Brace yourself for the usual "the oils all gone" lie.

North Sea oil is a huge resource that England would lose to an independent Scotland. We have more than 50% of Europe's offshore wind potential, nearly unlimited wave potential.

They both absolutely are, please keep up. Their are proposed policies in place for responsible management of it, which would be something a Scottish government could do after independence. This is literally minutes of reading you could do and youd be as caught up as the rest of us.

To add to this, oil is a bonus. Theres a countries all over the world without the oil resources we have that don't need their next door neighbour to manage their finances and not a single one of them has decided they'd do better back under the empire.

You realise all your resources are run by private companies mostly foreign? So how you think independence will sort that out beats me.

And it's only toxic cause that's what a Nationalistic political party wants you to think.

"I just want to know why Westminster want to hang on to us it’s not because they love us it’s our resources oh and by the way I’m not anti English I’ve got lots of English friends

What resource we’ve got more natural resources than them that’s for sure

Tell me then

Brace yourself for the usual "the oils all gone" lie.

North Sea oil is a huge resource that England would lose to an independent Scotland. We have more than 50% of Europe's offshore wind potential, nearly unlimited wave potential.

So snp and greens happy for oil after independence but last year it was bad during cop26

So it's good now jeezo make mind up will u "

Ive never once said anything against it, what do you mean?

"Well Scotland produced more electricity than it needed through wind yet we are getting shafted on our bills blame Westminster can you give me a good reason for staying in this toxic union? Ps I’m a bluenose before you start on the football pish

You realise all your resources are run by private companies mostly foreign? So how you think independence will sort that out beats me.

And it's only toxic cause that's what a Nationalistic political party wants you to think."

And all commodities are traded on a stock exchange in another country. Privately owned or not they're taxed. Basic stuff mate.

Finally, some sense out of the d*unken maw! Glad you picked something up tonight.

Really tho, ill listen to anyones point of view, maybe they know something I dont? Its dead easy to educated yourself and nobody else's job, if you don't know something having to ask isnt a bad thing. I think there's a ton of entrenched views that deserve to get broken down. Probably on both sides. Any argument should be fact driven with opinion and "heart" put aside if you actually want to learn.

The economy, politics, resources and even human rights are all stuff we've talked about tonight and I honestly don't think you've tried to learn a single new fact about any of them even though you've been wrong about plenty. Some people are stuck in their ways.

You keep saying you want to be sold on "yes". Why not sell the rest of us on No? Why shouldn't Scotland do what every other country in the world does and look after itself?

Ok, where does he mention SNP?

He says some pro Scottish stuff, and a bit about Westminster/Eton.

At no point did he mention the SNP or anything negative about the English.

Somehow you've said it was anti English and pro SNP despite him mentioning either?

The d*unk maw chat on this is exactly what I've missed. They tell you it's all about equality and status quo and why fix what isn't broken, but they can't help but let their dirty wee bigoted side out when they've had a glass of wine.

Its all about minorities and imigrants and pronouns and too much reading the daily mail.

Their kids will never thank them for voting no. And then when they grow up and the question comes round again they'll cause rifts in their own family by not educating themselves and thinking everything they learned in the 80's is still relevant today.

Probably correct. But shes a lost cause in my opinion. When shown evidence is wrong, when given facts they're opinion.

Im happy to antagonise bigots who think they're above anyone else. I hope she wakes up hungover tomorrow maybe she'll take a good hard look in the mirror and realise how ashamed her kids would be to see her saying the things she did, maybe she won't.

Its everyone's job to educate themselves and be aware of the facts, but you can only answer so many questions and show your working before it's clear youre onto a lost cause.

There’s lots of arguments of what the new Scotland will be like after independence.

In terms of resources, we have the odd pocket of coal left, once we pump out the mines, we can try selling a high anthracite commodity on the European market that we’ll has no industry it can be used in. Only China has this industry left - you could try sellin* it to America/ Canada buttheyve got5here own they can’t sell....

Oil, it keeps getting mentioned. If Scotland actually owned the reserves- or more importantly the contracts for extraction - Nicola sold these off btw 3 years ago- we’d have money in the bank, but alas no. She could try nationalising it by force, but with no army / navy/ airforce she might find it a bit hard. Then there’s an increasing demand for electric vehicles, mmm a reducing or dead end investment and therefore return.

Talking of money, err the mainstream banks that have Scotland in there name are well, kinda not Scottish owned.

When it comes to the merchant banking in Scotland, currently the trading level is at 15% of what it was before the first referendum - yes we’ve lost 85% of the money traded/ held in Scotland. A combination of takeovers/ mergers / buyouts and moves has caused this - confidence in the political set up has been a major influence on this.

So what’s left to power an economy? Whisky? With - at last count- 80% owned by foreign companies it’s not really Scottish is it? Any form of heavy industry? Err none - we made steel that was the tong kind for a market saturated by cheaper German/ Spanish / Italian/ American etc

What else do we have for industry to make money for Scotland? And that which is not owned by foreign companies? If you can name one that employees over 250 people, let me know - put aside foodstuffs- Baxter’s foods/ Thomas tunnock etc there are none.

If SNP can’t get - and it’s been said at the current hearing - two wee boats to sail under there own power doom the watter, ( there political involvement has been officially recognised) whathope do they have running a country.

A country with no money and no way of generating it. A country more importantly with no future plan too.

There's a lot of helicopter thinking in there with a lot of detail missed out.

Its 4am, so just to correct it a bit. All those industries you spoke about pay taxes, oil, whisky etc. Etc. Doesn't matter who owns them, they pay in the country of manufacture/extraction. You skimmed very quickly over wind/renewables, we are a net exporter, plus the revenue generated on what we use domestically. Coal - a few pockets, are you kidding? We have loads of of low sulphur high grade coal should we choose to extract it. Coal from the Americas is vastly inferior to ours, should we choose to bring it up (let's not). Fresh water, we are a net exporter. Scotland's recorded exports are just shy of £85bn, which gets debated as being low due to lack of transparency on some items (whisky at £5bn on 30% of world market, when Irish books a similar value on 10%).

You make it sound like there is no money at all, dont be disingenuous, it just weakens your argument.

This is embarrassing to the the point of being tragic. Without even touching on the point of understanding why foreign ownership of business isn't important (well get to that later) let's break it down.

Minerals - Scotland is an untapped resource of whats under the ground. 93% of mainland Scotland has never been even as much as exploratory mined. You don't know whats there, nobody does. Pretending you do is a lie and shows off how little you know on the bounce.

Nobody "sold the oil". As a statement that doesnt make sense. You can't sell oil until its extracted. You can sell drilling rights to private company's, but its the OPEC opinion that there are massive untapped reserves still there. The existence is still being verified by numerous exploratory wells. You don't know how much is there. Literally nobody does because they're finding more all the time.

The merchant banking trading level of....what? 15% + 85% is definitely 100% but thats exactly where any maths involved in that statement end. Its hard to tell if this is something you think you read somewhere or if someone has just fed you a stat you believed and are repeating ad neausem.

Whisky, (yawn what a fucking cliche right?!) How much is whisky worth? At the moment all the taxable income goes to London before a portion of it comes back to Scotland, so we don't get the full benefit. But what is it actually worth. Gin made in the UK is worth about 550 million a year, wine gets about 460 million. All the beef reared and sold in the UK make about 440 million. Salmon is bog in Scotland, it gets about 750 million a year. Those seem like big decent numbers, but maybe a bit thing spread across the UK.

Whisky is worth 4600 million per year produced exclusively in Scotland. Thats 4.6 billion btw. The next top 26 exports across the whole UK dont equal whisky.

If every penny spent raising tax on whisky alobe stayed in Scotland, we would be richer than any other county of comparable size and population.

What else? Scotland has one of the fastest growing aerospace industries in Europe. 3 out of every 10 satellites launched anywhere in the world last year were built in Scotland.

Thats one example you should know about. There's lots of others if you cared to find out.

Again, its massive taxable income being channeled through London currently that Scotland gets a fraction back when it could be keeping 100%.

Tell me again how Scotland has to way to generating its own money?

Read both of the above replies.

I guess we will differ on opinion.

Just remember, everything you mention is owned and controlled by foreign companies, there profits go overseas.

Even the power lines and the generation of the power is owned by foreign companies.

I notice neither mention Ferguson Marine.

Two wee boats, Nicola pushed it, was there waving the flags, finger pointing begins, they all duck. Some poor sod will be the fall guy.

"Well Scotland produced more electricity than it needed through wind yet we are getting shafted on our bills blame Westminster can you give me a good reason for staying in this toxic union? Ps I’m a bluenose before you start on the football pish

I really don't care who you support but do you really think we will get fuel cheaper

We keep comparing to Norway look what they paying not much cheaper than us

Sell it to me obviously not going to sell anything to you but I’ll tell you what I’d rather have a Scottish person looking out for our country and what’s best than a bunch of toffs from Eton who treat us with competent

So another anti English post I already stated I’ve got lots of English friends and it’s anti Westminster and there Eton toffs who don’t give a crap about you or me or most of there English people "

this makes me laugh so basically it’s a chip on your shoulder class thing with you.

The way your coming across it sounds like nicola and her snp squad are nipping down te lidi on their lunch break and shopping in primark to hit the town on a Friday night with the girls.

Get a grip there’s not one politician from ANY party that is in touch with the real world they’re all looking down on us and think they are superior.
