In Edinburgh for a weekend away with my pal. Just wondering what is the best area for a night out. I seem to remember being here with the hubby that there was a street that ran parallel with Princes Street on the opposite side of waverley Station that was quite lively. Is this still the case.

In the west.

Rose Street, it is still there. It doesn't have as many pubs as it used to but there are still quite a few as well as restaurants.

^ The Grassmarket is good as well. George Street has a few bars as well, it's just one over from Rose Street.

Used to be. Not really a red light area these days in Edinburgh. All online and saunas. Remember the pubic triangle!

Pubic triangle is still on the go lol it refers to the 3 strip clubs and is much closer to grassmarket than leith.

Grassmarket/ Cowgate sounds like the place you have described as behind the train station.

we started off in Rose Street then up Cowgate area and ended up in a lap dancing club

The bars along the Shore are great. Plenty of great eateries too. The place has a really groovy feel and ambience to it.
