"not everyone can afford to go out and hire kilts and afford to by glam gowns at that time on the year....so how about just glam party gear....much more affordable.....and for the ladies not everyone wears dresses either.......just a thought.....i think just xmas glam party gear !" i have to agree with this entirely, nowt wrong with a social having a wee theme but in the past i got right fed up with socials & parties always having to be dressing up occasions be it either fancy dress or james bond nights etc,etc we`ve just had halloween which dressing up for is the law lol but it`s just nice to attend a social dressed normally for a night on the town without having to shell out more money for different outfits each time a social comes around just my thoughts that`s all nowt wrong with adding a bit of gamour to the night though with what you may already have in your wardrobe and i know dressing up for social is not obligatory but does make folks who maybe can`t afford a fancy outfit feel out of place if others all dress to the theme mr H XXX

"be wearing me kilt n ghillie top me thinks What's a ghillie top? Google suggests sniper's camoflage and I can't imagine that's what you mean." what you looked up on google was a ghillie suit which is a camo suit used for stalking deer and snipers use them as well i think a ghillie top is a fancy shirt.

Now I'm even more confused. I can understand why something designed as camoflage might be called 'ghillie' (even if I don't get why anyone would team it with a kilt). Why a ghillie, whose job involved blending into the background, would wear a fancy shirt is beyond me. I'm obviously no fashionista

"the shirt comes in all colours For a casual kilt look, a Jacobite shirt (sometime called a ghillie or Jacobean shirt) gets plenty of attention. Designed to be loose fitting, these casual shirts have eyelets and a leather tie at the neck, reminiscent of the ancient shirts worn during the Jacobite movement. " Those monstrosities with puffy sleeves and cross-cross lacing at the throat? They're an abomination. Why anyone thinks they have anything to do with Scottish history is baffling.

"well jim from glasgow if you read books on scottish history you might learn something m8ty dont come n bitch t me wot i can n cant wear i dont care its what i feel comfotable wearing n oh its no got puffy arms get yer facts b4 commenting bout wot i wear thanks m8ty bigg g" You don't want to believe everything you read in books. Walter Scott has a great deal to answer for. He almost singlehandedly invented the tartan myth the Scottish tourist industry has taken to its cash register so enthusiastically.

"be wearing me kilt n ghillie top i think a ghillie top is a fancy shirt." Ghillie means 'boy'. So you'll be wearing a boy-top. Don't you just love the misuse of language. Like 'plaid' doesn't mean 'tartan' either. It means 'blanket'.
