Hi Peeps,

Just a wee post to c what ppl think of this idea had a few ppl mail me asking what the dress code is for christmas social some fems have said theyd like a clammed up look for the nite since it christmas what do u think to ladies in evening gowns and guys in either suits or kilts ?

not everyone can afford to go out and hire kilts and afford to by glam gowns at that time on the year....so how about just glam party gear....much more affordable.....and for the ladies not everyone wears dresses either.......just a thought.....i think just xmas glam party gear !

i have to agree with this entirely,nowt wrong with a social having a wee theme but in the past i got right fed up with socials & parties always having to be dressing up occasions be it either fancy dress or james bond nights etc,etc

we`ve just had halloween which dressing up for is the law lol

but it`s just nice to attend a social dressed normally for a night on the town without having to shell out more money for different outfits each time a social comes around

just my thoughts that`s all

nowt wrong with adding a bit of gamour to the night though with what you may already have in your wardrobe and i know dressing up for social is not obligatory but does make folks who maybe can`t afford a fancy outfit feel out of place if others all dress to the theme

yeah i understand its a pretty expencive time of year and that ppl might have bought their outfits already

so will go for just glammed up party gear and hopefully the men will still come in suits or kilts xxxx

We dont usually "dress up"

Whatever we feel comfortable in at the time.

Gill has allsorts,evening gowns,party frocks etc etc.Me personally i dont wear suits,ties or kilts unless its a wedding or a funeral.

Jeans and a shirt for me i'm afraid.

i have to agree with the above im afraid, the cost is way too much to shell out on kilts etc....i know scott for 1 wouldnt attend a function like this in a suit, he wears one everyday and going out is for dress-down xxx

what you looked up on google was a ghillie suit which is a camo suit used for stalking deer and snipers use them as well i think a ghillie top is a fancy shirt.

I have a lovely velvet evening dress I bought to get married in and never wore it (changed the date and wore a suit instead

) but I dont got an invite to the social

A formal-style night would be great. I love the glamming up and the thought of a stylish night. The sight of some of you ladies in a ballgown would be totally thrilling,too. I've heard some of you scrub up nicely

Now I'm even more confused. I can understand why something designed as camoflage might be called 'ghillie' (even if I don't get why anyone would team it with a kilt).

Why a ghillie, whose job involved blending into the background, would wear a fancy shirt is beyond me.

Designed to be loose fitting, these casual shirts have eyelets and a leather tie at the neck, reminiscent of the ancient shirts worn during the Jacobite movement.

the ghillie shirt is a stalkers shirt but also worn by jacobean warriors over there plaid of there kilt in winter now used as an evening shirt rather than a jacket wi the kilt if u wana see one theres a pic o me in it in ma profile

Evening dress is lovely but not everyone can afford it, I made my own for the last one that I went to.

How about a mix of long evening dress or very smart normal length dresses.

The party I went to was FORMAL but there was 3-4 ladies who opted for Knee length sparkly outfits, and they looked fab.

For the men, KILTS would be brill, so SEXY. Looks good when they are dancing especially at a ceilidh .

Ghillie means 'boy'. So you'll be wearing a boy-top.

Don't you just love the misuse of language. Like 'plaid' doesn't mean 'tartan' either. It means 'blanket'.
