London - till 25th

Sausages are a definite yes.

Beef. Pan fried wi red onions, the once sausages are done, good dash of red wine, beef stock and reduce till a nice thick sauce.

Half sausages and add to sealed stew along with onion gravy and top with a little more beef stock if required.

Top with pastry...

No sausages.

It' must be an East/West thing, as I'd never heard of it till I worked with someone who was originally from near Motherwell, and when I mentioned Sausages in the Steak Pie to my local butcher, even he looked at me strangely.

Never heard of steak pie being a tradition. Is it a West coast/east coast/borders thing or is it across the country?

My family is from the west and they always put sausage in it. It was because they had a big family and steak meet was incredibly expensive so it was bulked out with sausages.

I got to like it so much that I was disappointed when I was served a steak pie in a restaurant and it didn't have sausages.

It’s not a west coast thing it’s an old tradition as diced meat was a little expensive for some people to buy so you would put sausages in it to substitute for having less diced steak x

That makes sense, but like I said, I'd never heard of it till a few years back. I'm a 70's child and the Top-Crust Steak Pies were saved for special occasions, and were always chunks of steak, with onion and carrot being the only occasional extras still intact in it.

My lesson learned this year however, is DON'T forget to order one from the Local Butchers... Mainly cause the one we had was liked over-stewed beef rather than good chunks of steak that the butcher has in theirs.

I've never had or known sausages to be in steak pie either (originally from Edin) - ex partner from Falkirk made one with sausages and I teased him for it. Tasted not bad but deffo prefer without.

"Minnicks up in St Andrews do the best steak pie with proper steak beef. "

Everybody says their local butcher's steak pie is the best.

Luckily my local butchers won an award for their Steak Pie one year, so at that point I could say it was the best in Scotland

I had a look, and it's not mentioned on their social media. They also appear to have abandoned their website, so it's not there either (Just a holding page).

It'll still be stuck to one of their shop windows

Mushrooms would have to be on the side for us, as my girlfriend is highly allergic to them.

But funilly enough I was thinking of one served with pepper sauce, just this morning.
