Just a wee friendly reminder to all those heading out on Xmas parties etc. Having worked in hospitality for over 20 years(god that's scary to think) I just ask you all:

Be kind to your servers!

These people work their asses off at this time of year and get dogs abuse for it. Most will be working long hours with no breaks and little sleep, eating on the go all to give the customer the best experience they can. They won't get a Xmas party till January, most won't see family or friends this year so again please be kind.

Treat others how you would like to be treated and let's all have a great Xmas and new year.

Stay safe

So they don't do it to earn a wage then. ?

Regardless of the time of year we should all treat staff with respect anyway but on that same note I don't personally require a reminder either.

I don't get a Xmas or newyears day either as normally working too but that's through choice and the lure of the big bucks . Like any job it has good and bad points but I dont feel the need to remind people how to behave or feel sorry for me .

I'm sure the tips are good.

Stop being an arse about it!! The guy is reminding folk not to get steamin and be a dick to the serving staff because they are a bit slower coming back with an order. Hospitality had taken a major hit with covid and most venues are experiencing staffing issues, meaning the workers who are there are carrying the brunt.

While the post wasn’t directed at you personally Zest, there are some absolute devils out their who will need this subtle reminder not to be a dick on their Xmas night out.

I was out in town on Saturday and the Christmas spirit was well and truly beyond a few folk. Staff in shops and bars being abused mostly by men of a certain age. All were aimed at young staff who to their credit handled the situations with total dignity.

Absolutely no need for it.

The tips are shite! Card payments have put an end to that, had a party night with 150 folk, 8 staff and a massive 2 quid was made. Most of these guys are on minimum wage and have to deal with fuckwits who go out once a year.

Right now 80% of hospitality workforce are fresh faced 18 year olds, I know I wouldnt want my kids taking abuse from d*unk idiots who don't know how to behave, unfortunately that's what the Xmas party nights bring.

As I said to Regina privately, I've organised Xmas parties for small and large groups for over 20 years and would struggle to could count on one hand the number of times I've seen staff be abused. I've either been very lucky or again a minority of situations is now being portrayed as a pandemic of occurrences. I will agree though , not even 1 instance is acceptable.

K what abuse are you speaking about that happens at xmas party nights that is not around during the rest of the year. Perhaps the OP would be better suited to answer since he's the one requesting we behave and spare a thought.

35 years in hospitality and it's always worse at Xmas, no idea why, maybe folk drink more at this time of the year.

At the weekend over 2 party nights we were subjected to all kinds of crap... 3 folk removed before the soup was served. Don't get me wrong hospitality staff can also be arseholes. At a fab Xmas party night just before covid the barman called me moany because I asked him to change the glass that was covered in someone's lipstick.

K you've actually hit spot on to some of my thoughts here.

Having thought about Xmas drinkers , it's probably because many who don't usually drink till pished , get pished at Xmas and can't control themselves.

I also have seen people removed for giving staff the tiniest piece of grief so again the staff have protection . You had a grumpy bar staff member when you had a very legitimate complaint and been in similar situations myself with staff when asked to fix something wrong they go all defensive and look at you like a piece of shit. As the OP said , treat people like you'd like to be treated but that goes both ways. If their gonna be arsy with me then I'm gonna treat them the same way.

Oh I remember the lipstick occurrence, despite being loaded with the cold that night. That place was seriously understaffed and the only bar man was obviously under pressure. It didn’t excuse his comment or his drop in standards.
