Edinburgh

You: Blue hair, short curvy girl. lots of things I like in one package !

Me: just shopping, browsing, in the chiller section.

We made eye contact as we passed. Was that a flash of recognition in your eyes? Have I sent you a message on fab already? Did you see me, my eyes and hair above my mask, the only parts of my face visible in this plague infected world. Did you recognize me that way?

My cheeky smile hidden behind some protective cloth. A slight cat design printed on it. Hiding my Cheshire cat smile from real life.

You were behind a blue mask, utilitarian in function. Were you smiling? I couldn't tell. But those eyes, they told me a lot, but not everything, and I wanted to know more.

Time dragged me past and away from you, I was in a hurry, milk and bread demanding my attention.

I looked for you in the next isle but lost you in the crowd. Your blue hair a beacon of excitement no more.

A missed connection occurred in isle 6. no clean up required, but i certainly slipped up there.

If you are reading this Miss short, curvy, blue haired, temptress, and you see yourself reflected in my words ... connect with me so i can not miss the Ms again this time.

You know, I never really understood the "missed connections" part of any magazine or website, i mean, the chances of any one actually connecting with the missed connection are astronomical to the point of pointlessness.

I always saw them as a waste of time where people vented mild frustration at a perceived missing out on something while the good ones were a vague attempt at being poncy with words, like a beginners attempt at a story with poetic pretensions.

But there was something in the recognition in her eyes that made me wonder "Did I already send her a message on fab, photo enclosed, and she recognized me from that?"

The continued looking at me, piercing looks, like she was trying to reconcile the physical version of me with the 2d image of me, caught in time, a 1/1000th fraction of me. Different when filled out in the flesh. A more real version of me.

I didn't recognize her (from the part of her that i could see with a mask) from my real life (and i suppose she was a "no reply" with no photo from the fab life). She would have stuck in my memory I'm sure.

Anyway, I had some spare time to waste the other night and decided to vent a lament of my own missed connection in a slightly poetic form, but without the form of poetry.

The chances of finding this connection is mind boggling slim, but still, I enjoyed being slightly poncy with words in an attempt to shake of some life frustration.

It was either this or a haiku !!!

I remember one or two successes in the metro. Probably because they knew they read the metro on a particular commute though.
