Car windscreen

Dingwall

Was out in the car yesterday when a deerjamp over a roadside fence and landed on the car bonnet and then hit the windscreen shattering it. After the shock managed to drive the car back home and the hubby got onto the insurance for a windscreen replacement but first appointment they can give to do it is 15th Oct. That is over 3 weeks. How the hell are they so busy just now. Looks like 3 weeks walking as the hubby's car is not insured for me or else he will be a taxi service. Absolutely fuming.

Not good but the bottom line is nobody was hurt. The car will get repaired and you are still alive so be grateful for this.x

Have you tried asking your insurance for a courtesy car, your policy might cover this or lay it on that it's an unreasonable timescale for repairs and will they refund the 3 weeks premium as the vehicle is unusable. Also contact the dealer for the make of vehicle they may have one and have independent smaller fitters that will do it. You can dictate where the car goes but it might cost a little more.

I use independent window fitter a lot cheaper and faster than insurance companies.

The last time I needed a new windscreen I phoned the guy on Friday afternoon and a new window was fitted Saturday morning

The insurers would supply a courtesy car in an accident but not for a windscreen repair

Through the insurance the windscreen is covered, going independently I would have to pay for it.

I once got a windscreen replaced independently and it was only £20 more than my excess. Might be worth trying

It is often really reasonable priced to be added on your hubbies insurance, that might be a good work around ?

"hows the deer?

Unfortunately it probably picked itself up and wandered into scrub or bushes , to lie down and die. Usually from internal bleeding.

I tend to get called out more times during the summer and rut to dispatch deer involved in roadside hits , but this year has been exceptionally high.

Glad you are OK. It can be a scary and dangerous experience .

Technically it is an accident and not a repair. You were involved in an accident with a deer. Ive been in the motor industry for many years and you need to play insurance and warranty at their own game. A repair is a chip of crack 5mm in diameter max after that it's a replacement. I'd get back onto them and press the issue

Always a smart and taking the Mickley out of someone else's misfortune.

Don't think he would be such a smart ass if it happened to him or his family.

Actually I would , humour is a huge part of my and my family lifestyle. Nobody was hurt , except possibly a deer and its a story she will no doubt tell over and over to friends and family for many years to come.

Your response though makes me wonder what other doom and gloom you have going on in YOUR life when clearly your devoid of any kind of humour.

Another person offended by proxy , love it .

When the dear landed on the bonnet before hitting the windscreen, surely there was damage to the bonnet that needed fixing , even a minor scratch ? That now makes it an accident and repairs for bonnet and windscreen together. Assuming of course your fully comp.

Never offended just beggars belief how narrow minded some keyboard drama queen's are as they always have to get the last word. Not that I am finger pointing. Gosh could not have that happening.

This happened to me on the Corsock - New Galloway road a few years ago. A bit alarming.

I just turned around and drove to Dumfries and got a new windscreen fitted. Never bothered with insurance as it was too much hassle.

Or an app on your phone, you can add yourself to any vehicle even for a matter of hours.

Cost me eleven quid over the phone to add one of my progeny and was done in minutes.

Direct line; they were excellent when I had a very bad crash a few years back. No quibbles good settlement

Also if you check your insurance if your fully comp you might be able to drive someone's car on your insurance but only third party. Unless his is a company car then you will probably have to be a named driver.

The thing is putting an accident claim in affects no claim bonus whereas a windscreen clam doesnt

I can drive another on my insurance but his car is a high performance, high value car which he won't let me drive on only third party

It costs too much for me to be insured on his car because of my diabetes and having to renew my licence every 3 years

Yeah true, but I'd get back at them. You are paying for a service that they cant provide in a reasonable timescale. When you took out the policy and they said if it happens its 3 weeks then you would have probably said no it's fine I won't bother and went somewhere else. Also if you're paying monthly then speak to whoever is responsible for the credit and say you have been miss sold the policy because of the delay in ine repairs process and their unwillingness to resolve it.
