Just because it's the biggest doesn't necessarily mean it's the best.

Just because it's the hardest doesn't necessarily mean it's the most worthwhile.

Anyway, I went up Ben Nevis the other day and it was great. The weather was fantastic and the scenery was amazing. I avoided the crowds by going up via the CMD arete which involves a bit of scrambling, though nothing major, followed by a final ascent over a boulder field. For walkers, it's probably the hardest route. However, the sense of achievement and exhilaration combined with the stunning views make it all so worthwhile.

Yet just because something is the biggest or the hardest doesn't mean it's the best. Which lesser known Scottish hills or mountains do you recommend?

Ooh, where to start.

The nob between Shirt Dhonull and Bheinn a Bheither above Ballachulish is one of Scotland's finest scrambles, and the rest of the horseshoe is a cracking meander too.

I do like the view from the Argyll Vorlich, seriously steep day out walking.

Ben Stack on a clear day is really impressive, for both how far you can see and how wonderful the ridge is.

Most of the Ochils.

My fave hills to date have been Bein Ghlas and Ben Lawers, I’m not fond of scrambling and suffer from a bit of vertigo but this was an awesome day out.

Summer solstice I walked the whangie with a friend for sunset, it was breathtaking watching the sun go down behind The Cobbler. That’s an easy walk, anyone could do it.

Beinn a'Ghlo of course is also great for views - but you have to do the traverse from Carn nan Gahbhar to Carn Liath for a proper day out.

Ruadh stac Mhor in Torridon is a Munro, so slightly better known, but a fabulous if you get there from Sail Mhor scramble...

Well now yea, there’s tonnes at the moment. Avoid sheltered areas and sitting about in twilight hours.

Suilven - in Assynt. Not even a Corbett but one of the most phenomenal mountains in Europe. Scenery is second to none. In fact all of the Assynt mountains are fantastic OP.
