Seen a few profiles of people 45 to 57 that say they cant accomodate because they have "kids" at home. Are kids really struggling to get houses and affording it? To be in your 40s and 50s and still have adult kids living at home must be difficult.. is it that bad out there?

Or maybe they chose to have kids later in life so the kids are still fairly young? I have a friend who is 54 and his kids are 14 & 9.

I lived at home with my folks until I was 26. I moved out a couple of times but had to move home when I split up with my ex etc. It's really hard for first time buyers to get a mortgage without a 10% deposit and you can't save that very quickly if you rent so a lot of people stay with their folks until they can afford it.

In a nutshell yes, we have both our kids still with us (both early 20's) ones at Uni the other cant find work. Hard enough for them both to get by week to week, they've no chance of having £20k for a deposit on a house or the rent for somewhere.

Think we'll have them for a while yet.

I'm 41 now, Jo is 34.... When our youngest is 20, we well be 56 and 49 respectively.

Unless he leaves school at 16 or college at 18 and wins the lottery or becomes a brain surgeon then we will be like that.

some folks have their kids a little later in life, if you have your kisa in your thirties then of course theyre still at home when your in your forties

I keep trying to get rid of mine but i make life to comfortable for them lol. Its too expensive down here for them to move out!

I'm 41 and my eldest child is only 9..... I'm fairly sure I'd get into trouble for packing his bags and chucking him out!!

my youngest is 5 so by the time she's, 20 I'll be 56 and unless she's away at uni or in a highly paid job I expect she's gonna be at home with me.. I left home at 28 as I was waiting to get a job that meant I could get a mortgage and not throw money away on rent

But on saying that when you decide to become a parent there is no contract to sign to say they have to move out at a certain age which is a shame and should be made 'the law'.

Me is a child of the 60s - just - and me dad isnow mid 80s - so yes peeps do have kids at home in later life.

I'm 52 and have kids, 21 and 23 still staying at home for a variety of reasons. One will be moving out soon and the other starts back at college this month. Accommodating can be hap-hazardous at the best of times lol!

im 48 mr is 52 kids 24/20 and 17 all still at home eldest final year at uni hopefully moving out next year to persue his chosen career,middle one 20 working with gf so also moving out sometime in the next few years, and youngest is only 17 so still at school .

I dont know how the other parents feel but im dreading the day my kids will fly the nest so enjoying having them here while i can xxx

Yeah, i can believe this. I was lucky enough to be able to move out with my ex partner and we rented somewhere together. Im really struggling to make ends meet and the thought of moving home as come into my head and makes me very sad

Much as I see where you are coming from Greg regarding peoples ages ! I was 42 when my son was born he is now 13 I have no choice but to allow him to stay at home.

I've told my kids they've all to leave when they're 16 unless they at UNI lol I was joking when I said this and the 7 year was inconsolable for days at the thought of not living with me till I die lol wonder if he will still love me as much in ten years lol

Ours are all late teens to early 20's and no prospect of any flying the coop. We love them of course, but it means we can't play in the house. Coming onto Fab is even a challenge. One of the reasons we bought a camper van, only place we can get peace and quiet...!

I'm with you there Miss D.

My kids (18 & 19)have been told they are never leaving home. Such a glutton for punishment that my step daughter (16) has also moved in. I hate the thought of a quiet house with them not in it.

Fly, had other ideas and has been trying to get them to move out since they learnt to cook.

I used to accomodate when my kids were younger, they were at school or staying at grandparents, aunties etc but as they grow older they are lurking there, your never sure when they may appear, cant even sneak a choccie biscuit out of the hidden stash without one of them appearing, sex ha no chance

We had our youngest when we were 30 so he is still at school and we are 48. If he goes to Uni then I expect he will come back here in the summer so I expect that we will still have hime kicking around until we are 52 ish.

On the other hand my wife's school friend married at 19 and is a granny now so she has grandkids staying over at the wekends quite often.

I am 45 and my kids are 9, 10 and 11 and although at times i wish they would move out , I think they might still be a bit wee just yet. We don't all have our kids in our teens.

Same here we have a 15 year old here and she is at an age where she is too old to be babysat and too young to be left and we are 46 and 54.
