Hi folks,

Wondering if you can lend some assistance. I’m considering relocating to Bo’ness or that rough area as home prices are just so much cheaper out there.

What is the area like? Is it worth moving further away from the city and commuting? And most importantly is there anyone in the area that plays?

If you are a rangers fan you will be fine otherwise keep your head down!! Drove through a few weekends and it reminded me of Belfast in the 80’s Union jacks everywhere and curbs coloured red white and blue.

I have always said after Ratho, Is the start of the Glasgow suburbs.. the further west you go, the more Glasgow it becomes, the more religion and football based it becomes...

All the town between the M8 and M9 corridor...

You'd be better staying put...

Nothing wrong with the place. I'd suggest cartiden if there's property available. Blackness is quiet.

The ex council houses are like them anywhere. Loads o new builds and up by deanburn is ok.

Embrace the fair and it's a good wee community. Loved ma years there.

If the most important thing is how many Fabbers is in the area then your probably better moving to a city , not Bo'ness lol.

It entirely depends on what you’re looking for from an area to live in...

- loads of great bars and restaurants? Stick to city

- great public transport links into Edinburgh / Glasgow: maybe look at other towns in the area with rail stations etc. There’s bus services but take a look at the timetable before assuming they’d meet your needs.

- somewhere affordable with your own space, and easy access to the outdoors and well linked (by car at least)to most of Scotland : boness is as good a shout as any town

Bo'ness

I love Bo'ness. Every place will have its nutters about that are crazy over football or something else. Its a nice place for the most part. Beautiful views and a great community spirit especially when the fair is allowed on. I may be biased being American and coming from a place where things were very different. But that's my two cents.

Appreciate all your help guys. My main pull is solely price related, the gulf in difference between Bo’ness and the city is unreal, so I’m just trying to figure out if it’s worth the commute

You can go Bo’ness or even closer to Falkirk I.e Grangemouth. Prices are decent and local amenities are pretty decent also. I stayed in Grangemouth for 10 years before moving closer to Falkirk centre. I’m a mobile engineer so motorway access for commuting is great. Also if taking twins then the stations run pretty consistently to both Glasgow and Edinburgh. Some places in bo ness do look run down but you get that everywhere.

Bo'ness is OK, Linlithgow is much nicer, Winchburgh is improving rapidly, Livingston is bigger.

Falkirk

I grew up in Bo'ness. It's got it's upsides and downsides. You're only 35 min from Edinburgh, lots of amenities locally in Falkirk and Stirling, Kinniel park is amazing... Lots of nice countryside around.

Also, very historical town and then there's the Children's fair day which is the best gala day in Scotland.

It isn’t half....... they go to town big time with all the decorations it’s the place to be. A few years ago they had a Harry Potter theme and all the neighbours in the street tried their best to re enact diagon alley.

It's never a gala day. It causes MDF shortages for a 30 mile radius.

Check out boness children's festival. A semi detached council home becomes A larger than life Disney castle.

It's called the Bo'ness fair and it's a whole community event its probarly the best community event in the area and combi Ed with the historical town centre it does make for a special day.

DONT go to Boness and call the fair a gala day they will chase you out with pitch forks

You are only a few miles from Linlithgow and the train to both Edinburgh and Glasgow

i looked at moving there a few yrs ago because off the house prices but it didnt work out with the extra travelling

nice wee place some great views
