Exactly, what happened to the r number? It is below 1..or that not even 1% of Scotland's population have even had a positive covid test, ever...5% of UK population as a whole & of that only 2.45% deaths from that...so a 97% survival rate & yet we're all still locked up like prisoners thinking this is about covid..not any more.

Data all on ons of you wanna check.

Aye, but if we hadn't locked down it would have been rampant and we'd have a massive number of people with Covid, no capacity in the hospitals and a massively higher death toll. The fact that it's so low shows the lockdown is working.

Must've watched something different to us as I'm sure she said that the current restrictions will stay in place and will be reviewed again at the end of February like it's been done time n time again, end of February she will say the same about the end of March

I think optimists see it as hope and just want to believe that it might be lifted then, realists and pessimists realise that it's almost definite that the restrictions will be pushed back further and mad yoons will pretend like there is no virus and "Wee Jimmy Crankie" just wants us to be locked in our houses forever so she can become president of Scotland forever.

Y'all forget those covid death numbers are from ANY DEATH where the person had a positive test with in 28 days...so that includes heart attacks, cancer, suicide, accidents & other illnesses....it ain't all covid & there's a 97% survival/recovery rate.

But it isn't just older people who are dying, & it also isn't just about the number of deaths, it is also about the number of people who are requiring hospitalisation & the impact that has on the NHS, and the people who have been left with long term illness and health issues caused by covid19

There wouldn’t be a high survival rate without protecting the hospitals’ abilities to admit patients.

And by this point people really need to learn about the I, II and 2 sections on death certificates. There is no pretence in the numbers.

Okay so over 98% are elderly, younger ones are not! 0.13% of the population have died with covid mentioned...not even 1%!

The placebo effect is undervalued & when you've had 10 months of shoving death rates, cases in your face several times a day when we are not used to it..we don't get told total death rates for anything else on the daily never mind several times a day! Telling everyone this is massively deadly when it's statistically not, then that will happen, people are frightened, some literally to death.

It's been though our house already BTW, we are fit healthy people, there is no long term side effects here & as with above the placebo effect plays a big part. (Only 10% of drugs surpass the placebo effect BTW so that how powerful it is)

Hospitals are overwhelmed because they are not fit for population & we've gotten so good at defying death & finding cures that we forgot that at any time a virus outbreak could happen & we weren't prepared with having infectious secure units nor with supplies or staff levels (brexit didn't help & nor does poor work conditions discouraging younger ones to take up the professions)

There is far more harm being done to the general population that cannot access health services, I've had appointments cancelled, so has my son & he's monitored by cancer unit & my epileptic mate can even get through to his docs despite fitting regularly & all of us are under 35!

Never mind that isolation is a punishment for the human psyche & we know that & with isolation breeds mental health issues...

Financial issues, education issues, the list goes on way before covid & long after it.

I'm not reading anything that starts with "but they're mostly elderly", as if they weren't people.

This virus, despite all the lockdowns has killed 5,000 people in Scotland and 100,000 and more across the UK. That's plenty!

The death rate would have been much higher had we not gone into lockdow. .

Just stop peddling this selfish crap about it would you.

How can people still not grasp the damage that would have been done to hospitals (and therefore patients) by letting this thing run rampant?

Hospitals have barely coped, but aye, it would have been a braw idea to just have more and more people coming and going...especially people with poor health already. That would have been fabulous

You have to wonder just how many people are on the “well, they don’t really matter as they’d be dead soon anyway” list. Old people certainly are...

The constant push for cancer units to be operating suggests they may be on it also because no-one is daft enough at this point to not understand, given how it’s gone through hospitals, care homes and schools, how it would impact those clinics, wards and patients.

Just who else should be sacrificed for “life as normal” I wonder?

and you've have taken all that personally of course rather than viewing the bigger picture of the matter.

death is a part of life, in any species it affects the young, sick & old more than any other sectors...humans included.

I'm sorry if you cant tell the difference when there are thousands that die every day which equated to 500k ever year at least naturally, you know since death is kinda a natural thing as unfortunate as that maybe to lose someone your close to, it affects all of us, its not avoidable.

we have an growing and aging population which is not taken into consideration by the media or the general public when shouting people died....well of course they have...cos as much as we like to believe we are above nature and can cure every thing, we can't, nor should we.

I get the NHS pressure but that is totally down to the things i mentioned before not the general public....

FFS Captian Tom Moore caught Covid IN hospital not outside of it!! so have many of the eldery! same with care homes.

How exactly if all the relevant infection controls are in place properly? was this staff? was this poor ventilation & obviously mixed between an infectious unit & non infectious units if that is the case or was it contaminants on equipment?

as for me being selfish, I spend 95% of my time at home even without a lockdown so who's selfish now.

especially since viruses have always existed and been transmitted in this way including flu which even with a vaccine killed 80k in 2018!! But you didn't know you'd passed it onto the wee granny from down the road that time you just jumped to the shop to get ibuprofen back then did ya! no, why? because we weren't being scare mongered. It still happened, 1 dude goes to a gig with the flu and at least half go home & got sick or passed it onto others....this has always happened is what I'm saying it's not new.

Maybe I just understand and accept the fragility of life better & know any day could be anyone's last.

Of course continue to pile on the naturalist that understands we are no more than part of nature...we're not gods although maybe reverting back to a belief in a 'god' may ease some people's pains over the subject of death.

Flu did not kill 80k in 2018, unless maybe you're talking worldwide. If you search Flu deaths UK you can find details of every years flu deaths on the government website. The 6 months from Oct 17 to April 18 there were around 350 deaths, a little lower than 80k

This is a virus that travels fast through person to person contact. If we weren't locked down the number of people catching it would be much higher, there would be no capacity for all those that were Ill with Covid in hospital, let alone those with other illnesses and there would be a vastly higher death rate.

Bet then you'd probably be crowing that not enough had been done.

Nope that was just in the UK...might have been a different year but was still fairly recently.

I already told you the NHS was under pressure and why! down to the politicians...we are an island that could have irradiated it long ago if it was done properly & there is growing evidence around the world every day that lockdowns are not stopping the virus any way because most transmissions are not by the community! they are hospital & care sectors more than any other.

97% survival is near perfect. I get those are lives but I don't see you complaining about the same in any other species only your own....those vaccines you do know millions of animals are killed and tortured every year to achieve that...just so you can avoid death a little longer & help destroy the planet a little more.....that right there is selfish.

difference in opinions is one this name calling is another and usually when you have no valid argument left to make.

It still happened, 1 dude goes to a gig with the flu and at least half go home & got sick or passed it onto others....this has always happened is what I'm saying it's not new.

Maybe I just understand and accept the fragility of life better & know any day could be anyone's last.

Of course continue to pile on the naturalist that understands we are no more than part of nature...we're not gods although maybe reverting back to a belief in a 'god' may ease some people's pains over the subject of death."

Flu did not kill 80k people in 2018. That’s a nonsense figure

Captain Sir Moore did catch covid in hospital, despite all the precautions being taken, so how does that fit in with your wish for cancer appointments not to be cancelled exactly?

Your comment about understanding better is laughable given the inaccuracy of so much of your posturing. Everyday may indeed be anyone’s last, however without measures being taken it would be the last day for considerably more people if we allow this thing to run rampant. Most people understand that.

Coventry

Even in 2017-2018, which is the most recent year with an unusually high total of deaths from flu, it did not hit 80k.

Not even if you take the whole excess winter deaths as being flu (which they are not) did it hit 80k

Just a reminder that before Covid came into our lives the NHS was under pressure. It always has been. Waiting times were long and services were stretched. A single disease was just another thing to add to the equation. The NHS is broken and needs fixed. Politicians are not up to fixing it. Covid is the perfect excuse to sell whats left.

"and you've have taken all that personally of course rather than viewing the bigger picture of the matter.

death is a part of life, in any species it affects the young, sick & old more than any other sectors...humans included.

How exactly if all the relevant infection controls are in place properly? was this staff? was this poor ventilation & obviously mixed between an infectious unit & non infectious units if that is the case or was it contaminants on equipment?

as for me being selfish, I spend 95% of my time at home even without a lockdown so who's selfish now.

especially since viruses have always existed and been transmitted in this way including flu which even with a vaccine killed 80k in 2018!! i cant understand the logic of arguing that life is fragile and we need to stop trying to prolong it

in the post after arguing that you and your friend are unable to see doctors, presumably with the intention of trying to improve your health and prolong your life

"The tier system that she ignored the data for to keep certain areas under restrictions regardless of how few cases there was?

Exactly, what happened to the r number? It is below 1..or that not even 1% of Scotland's population have even had a positive covid test, ever...5% of UK population as a whole & of that only 2.45% deaths from that...so a 97% survival rate & yet we're all still locked up like prisoners thinking this is about covid..not any more.

Data all on ons of you wanna check."

It may not sound like much in percentage terms but:

There are around 6 million people in Scotland

6,000,000 x 2.45% = about 150,000 dead.

And that assumes that the worst affevted can get treatment but if the NHS had more than a few thousand seriously ill at the same time, a much higher percentage would die.

Think about that!

I hate when people have this silly assumption that - "they had cancer or were diabetics or had dodgy hearts but covid is on the death certificate" - These people with underlying heath problems could go on living for years or decades longer. So covid being on the death certificate as cause of death is very valid

Eejit"

Flu killed 26500 in England alone in 2017/2018 and that is official figures and was roundly criticised as being too low by many of the universities. Their estimates were between 50 and 80k. The C19 are deaths withing 28 days of a positive test not being covid positive. Many of those tested could have had an infection for over 30 days which means many would have dies after having covid for over 8 weeks. If we had measured flu the same way the numbers would have been astronomical. Excess deaths for 2017/18 were hundreds of thousands and went from November to April. Hospitals were far busier in 2017/18 than they are this year. Due to C19 protocols capacity has been reduced in order to facilitate social distancing and isolating patients. Further there is a requirement to have more nurses per patient. Imagine if they had tested everyone in hospital for flu in 2017/18 and put these protocols in for all those positive, it would have been carnage. The biggest killer in modern society is stress. 2 of the biggest contributers to stress are isolation and financial worries. Lockdown is a wicked and immoral measure and has very little effect on a virus. Viruses have evolved over billions of years to spread from one animal to another and no lockdown will stop them. Its a King Kanute policy.

Car crashes don't exist, it's all a plot by the seat belt manufacturers to make you buy their products.

The media doesn't report how many of the victims had underlying medical conditions.

How many have died "during" the crash but not "because" of it?

Bloke I know down the pub says his sister's neighbours taxi driver met a nurse who says Doctors get extra money if they put down "just went through windscreen as no seat belt worn" on the death certificate.

Glasgow

"

I hate when people have this silly assumption that - "they had cancer or were diabetics or had dodgy hearts but covid is on the death certificate" - These people with underlying heath problems could go on living for years or decades longer. So covid being on the death certificate as cause of death is very valid "

There is nothing silly about it, it is factual. I have researched it. I don't have the exact stats to hand but statistically there is very little difference in average age of those dying "with" covid vs the average life expectancy, over 1/3 of "with" covid deaths saw no difference to their life expectancy and I saw an Oxford study that showed an average of 1 year of life lost but remember that is skewed with younger people who incidentally didn't have a full extensive medical before contracting covid and didn't have a full autopsy so we will never know if they really had no underlying condition. Think of it this way - whenever someone dies young they say thing such as "he was strong as an ox, totally unexpected"

Aye, so the odd person would have lasted a good number of years more but in reality the vast majority lived their life.

Look it up, there is a medical concept of "harvesting" where a disease removes the weak. That is exactly what is happening just now.

While nobody wants to lose someone they care about, locking down the entire country with the huge problems with the economy and unexpected mortality due to cancers being missed etc is crazy.

The only barrier to lifting restrictions is making sure the fantastic people in the NHS aren't overloaded.
