Glasgow

The BBC send me an email to ask me to complete a survey.

I happily filled it out and explained the exact reasons why i no longer, nor ever will bpay their TV tax again.

I know gew people check their emails these days, but please do and if you have also been asked let them know what you think.

The same people that moan about repeats and quality of tv programs on the BBC. I don’t agree with the license cost however I do realise the corporation needs to be funded in some way. The only way is to bring in ads like the other 3 terrestrial channels.

In what way?"

One example I reca, they stated that Salmond had been asked a question and was unable to answer, when in fact he had given a response that was almost ten minutes long.

Also they seem to back the Tories in a very biased way, not reporting things they should, incorrectly reporting other things. i havent watched the BBC in two years. maybe there have been changes, i doubt it.

Well you couldnt disagree with that, however Saville was all over all of the channels at the time and supported by government departments and officials.

In no way am I condoning what the "man" did, all I am saying though is you should also be boycotting the NHS and various other bodies that Saville was using as a vehicle to exploit vunerable children.

As I said if thats your thing, crack on.

with great ease I watch TV just not TV that requires a licence.

Why are you finding that hard to believe there are millions of channels you can get also you do realise that it's "live" broadcast TV that you require a licence for.

As for listening to radio in someone's car that's the owners concern my work plays radio and I certainly don't need a licence for the drivel I listen to in there that's the works concern not mine.

I can say hand on heart I don't need a licence as I use zero services that require it

BBC licence fee is about 50p a day for at least half a dozen channels, website, iplayer, Sounds and all the national and regional, local radio stations.

While I'm sympathetic to complaints about a right-wing bias in the news coverage there is also the option as a grown up to also check out Channel 4 News for balance. BBC Scotland channel has been pretty good too.

Why choose to fund an SNP, left wing, self loathing propaganda machine?

The BBC is not fit for purpose and it’s an absolute disgrace that it is the state broadcaster.

I don’t pay the fee nor watch the beeb.

I like the beeb in principle - I’m from America and know the tyranny of adverts. Being free market also doesn’t stop them from being “propaganda” free either. Just the corporations funding the adverts have more say in what is aired and what isn’t.

However, I barely watched the beeb and figured I was paying about the price of a movie ticket for each viewing. There are a plethora of other content providers that have figured out subscriptions (Netflix, NowTV, Disney+) and when the beeb moves to that model, I will probably get it.

I got a new TV and the first thing I did was take off the app for the BBC (I don’t like those that don’t pay but do watch - lack of integrity). I read The Guardian daily and a whole host of other news sites for my news. I don’t care for or like sports and definitely hate “TV personality” driven shows. The one thing I do miss is the great documentaries on BBC4

I’m not into being political about my lack of liscence just pragmatic

i think there is a total lack of understanding as to what requires you to have a tv license ... it funds the bbc but its not actually linked purely to bbc content

you dont need a license to use their website for news, listen to the radio or use the bbc sounds app

you don’t need a license to own a television

you don’t need a license to watch bbc programmes that have been sold to brit box / netflix etc

you don’t need a license to use catch up tv services

you do need a license if you watch or record LIVE tv on ANY channel (terrestrial or dogotal , not limited to bbc) , this is also not limited to watching through a tv, if you watch itv love tv through the app on your laptop for example that counts

you do need a license to watch anything at all on the i player

"BBC news is more like propoganda.

In what way?

One example I reca, they stated that Salmond had been asked a question and was unable to answer, when in fact he had given a response that was almost ten minutes long.

Also they seem to back the Tories in a very biased way, not reporting things they should, incorrectly reporting other things. i havent watched the BBC in two years. maybe there have been changes, i doubt it.

Just because he spoke for 10 minutes doesn’t mean he answered the question he was asked"

He didn’t just answer it, he ripped the journalist apart, which is why the piece for the BBC was so heavily edited. It was a disgraceful thing to do to settle the BBC’s political editor but far worse, it was allowed to be aired, knowing that position.

How many other reports are so biased? And as for QT.....

The letters received if you decline to pay are the most threatening I’ve ever seen. Elderly people can be genuinely afraid because of them.

"Why dont you pay it?

I don't use the 'Service'

Lol that’s the go to excuse for everyone that try’s to justify not paying their tv license.

So can you honestly say you don’t watch any programs on the BBC channels? News, Scottish Cup final, Wimbledon? What about the radio channels or I-player?"

I can 100% say I do not watch any of the above mentioned. Thanks for that I think I’ll stop those payments

"Watching tv is a key indicator for being a plonker. "

I've been on this site for about 10 years and read and contributed to quite a lot of posts but this statement must be the most stupid post I've ever read.

If there was a prize to be awarded for that accolade then equating someone who watches tv as a plonker, you win that prize hands down.

I'll also award you the thick as Sh1t award as well.

Just a background character

I'm looking forward to the new series of Line of Duty. And it's got Kelly MacDonald in it.

And like many others I'll continue to subsidise the freeloaders who refuse to pay their dues - you're welcome

The fact that the left see the BBC as a right wing propaganda machine and the right see the BBC as a left wing propaganda machine might be the first actual evidence I have witnessed that they truly are unbiased

The sign of a good compromise is that no one is happy.

The fact the both the left & right think the BBC is biased maybe says more about these people claiming bias and their lack of ability to see another point of view!

"i think there is a total lack of understanding as to what requires you to have a tv license ... it funds the bbc but its not actually linked purely to bbc content

you dont need a license to use their website for news, listen to the radio or use the bbc sounds app

you don’t need a license to own a television

you don’t need a license to watch bbc programmes that have been sold to brit box / netflix etc

you don’t need a license to use catch up tv services

you do need a license if you watch or record LIVE tv on ANY channel (terrestrial or dogotal , not limited to bbc) , this is also not limited to watching through a tv, if you watch itv love tv through the app on your laptop for example that counts

you do need a license to watch anything at all on the i player

"

At the end of the day, its about choice. The technology is now in place to bar those who choose not to use bbc services.

Its not about anyones reasons for watching/not watching.

Really is the most corrupt news corp.

Sarah Smith last night a prime example, telling downright lie that Eck wanted sturgeon to resign when he said no such thing.

She later took to Twitter to correct herself.

Snp politicians answer questions, as he did at that time. The Tories tend to mumble for a bit or go hide.

no point getting the letter just to have a moan about them out of principal when there is a perfectly legitimate process in place to stop them
