at paisley uni studyin at mo and a few friends and myself thinkin of a nite out in paisley ? wheres the good bits and avoid bits?/ many thanks k x

hiya, i usually drink in Glasgow as everytime I go to Paisley theres loads of trouble but cafe borgia and kiltie kiltie are great and do lovely grub , have fun !

Kilby's comment (above) about violence seems to be true. I think it suffers from small town syndrome in that it's not really enough to be able to put safe distance between warring factions. Neds from all over the town and surrounding areas seem to congregate in the same area and, more often than not, something kicks off.

Mind you, Glasgow city centre ain't much better.

yeah i seen that luckily im big n tough n could probably give most men a run in the square go stakes plus i wear 5 inch stilletos which take me to over 6 ft and can launch them with an accuracy that scares me!! think everywhere the same really but i actually feel safer drinkin in glasgow than in some of the locals down here x

failing all the above the student union is a mellow place to be even if your feet stick to the carpet eewwwwww how long has that been down ??

You could try Craig D'hu at top of Causeyside St. Actually it's on Calside.

Nice atmosphere and crowd (older types so no rave music lol!)

Paddy's in New st. Kiltie's and Borgia.

U might Not like them all....But hey it'll be fun visiting them

Just moved to Paisley. Quite good for a night out. Never been to fury murrays. But enjoy kilty kilty and the few clubs there. Live close by so handy. Never had any bother but then with the size of stu we never have trouble anywhere ha ha

Lived in Paisley all my life, never had any trouble.

Not saying it doesnt happen because quite clearly it does but it is exaggerated in the press. Have walked up the road many a night when the pubs are shut and have no fear in doing so. There are places to avoid like everywhere (the taxi rank at Gilmour Street springs to mind) but you shouldn't get any hassle in the town centre.

As far as the nightlife is concerned it is nowhere near as good as it used to be. The town as a whole is struggling badly these days and the pubs are suffering from that.

Whenever I'm out I tend to end up in Kilty Kilty. I would say it's the best for a proper night out. Borgia is good but maybe a bit of a younger crowd than Kilty.

The Craig Dhu and the Wallace are the type of pubs people start off in before moving on elsewhere.

I also like Paddy Malarkeys (especially after a Saints win) and the Bull Inn.

The Wee Howff is very much still open (was in pre and post match last week).

Other than that the Bankhouse is ok I think tho it's another pub I'm never in later on and the karaoke in the Afton on a Saturday night is good for a laugh if you're already pissed, tho maybe not for the faint hearted.

Totally agree with Pairofsaints, have lived in Paisley all my life and never really seen any bother, and frequently walk home alone without fear (and I'm only a wee guy!)

Think ithe town is still recovering from bad press a few years ago, when a local drugs war exploded into the papers and TV news.

It's a nice town ,and i'm sure you will find that out for yourself. Like everywhere else there are nutjobs and wierdo's...but common sense steers you away from these people. Have fun and enjoy!

I am with PoS as well. Paisley born and bred and not had one ounce of bother when socialising in the town. Walked home many a night pissed and always got home safely.

The biggest problem with Paisley now is resurrecting the town. Its a shame as Paisley is steeped in history and also has some magnificent architecture. If the council was savvy enough they could use that as a selling point to promote tourism and give much needed economy to the town.

What pisses me off is the one's that criticise Paisley. I bet they have never stepped foot in the town and are just going with the patter to be smart and cocky. Paisley is like every town in Britain, has its unemployment, drugs, anti-social behaviour etc etc. People just base it on the bad press from a view years ago and put 2+2 together and come up with 5

Have you ever thought about Greater Glasgow???.......go for a drive through some of the schemes and read the press then criticise Paisley.

Proud to be a Buddie........although a Bluenose one

there are some lovely buildings in paisley iv noticed that and the shoppin no bad too! every town got its issues social deterioation etc! all i wanted to know were what pubs were good etc and seem to have started a turf defence war!

I can't vouch for the accuracy of these figures or whether in Paisley alone or all of Renfrewshire but, if they're wrong, I'd have though someone would have pointed it out.
