This year on 31st i will be putting a sign on my door basically saying go away. I do usually make an effort and prepare 40+ goody bags for the kids i do not know but this year i am buying nothing as think it wrong for them to be out and about.

I thought the government had more or less spelled out that there wax to be no trick or treating/guising this year? So I'd be surprised if any were out.

Putting up a sign is a bit crap. Just don't answer the door.

Yes it is. Everytime the door gets chapped my dog will bark and i will be busy getting ready for work. I would rather them not chap the door than telling them i have nothing for them.

I dread to think whats in 40+ goody bags that your giving to kids. A pipe,pair of slippers , cardigan, few sex toys,

I can understand why you want to put up a sign. If the local kids know that your always generous the ones that are out will come to your house.they will be disappointed and your dog will go mental. A polite sign won't harm anyone xx

I know someone that is putting out bags with a sign saying please just take one and when they are gone they are gone but again I reckon the first wee buggers will just take the lot... it's a tricky one (oh no pun intended there)

I hate folk that don't open their doors at Halloween to kids as we were all kids once..but..this yr im making bags up putting them in a big homemade cauldron with a sign saying happy Halloween please take 1.

Honestly think folk are crazy to let their kids out at this time but yip I know folk are greedy and will.so..Next best thing.

A sign might attract more unwanted attention. Curtains closed, lights off / as little as possible would be your best bet.

Thought it was kind of an unwritten rule anyway - curtains closed, no halloween decorations means pass them by x

From what I understand from colleagues with kids they're being discouraged from 'normal' guising but instead consider going out as a family and get a treat for every house they see decorated or such; one area is doing a 'Scarecrow Trail' where folk put one up and kids get a treat (from their parents, who they're with throughout) for every one they spot.

If they happened to come across a bucket of sweets on a doorstep or two I can't see the harm in it - provided it can be done safely, sensibly and totally within the letter and spirit of the current regulations it doesn't seem all that crazy to me!

I'm expecting no kids this year because the past few years have been very quiet around here and I've been left with loads of stuff as most are now choosing to have parties for their kids .

This year I think will be pretty much the same given the circumstances.

I know many areas are choosing to light up their windows & gardens with scary Halloween stuff for the children to see with boxes of sweets & stuff out for the kids to help themselves .

I think your message would be a little bit mean & if it was me I'd just choose not to answer the door than telling the kids to go away !

Do you have a local community Facebook page? We do and everyone knows there will be now trick or treating. Instead there will be a street walk where houses taking park will decorate their windows for people to walk round and see.

It’s a really cool idea. We done it for Christmas on the light turning on night.

I've had a big debate for over a week if I should make stuff up or not.

I've decided I'm going to. If no kids come, the boys and the neighbourhood weans will get them, but if some do I want to have something to give them.

May not be a popular opinion, but I'll make sure it's fine as safely as possible x

This year I'm taking the kids out for a day then a drive in movie at night with a goodie bag I prepared myself. Usually when we go trick or treating we only knock on the doors with pumpkins outside....

Everything's gone to pot this year, better safe than sorry!!

I wouldn't personally put a sign up. One, it's a pretty nasty thing to do and two, it's only going to attract attention anyway. Have you got kids yourself? If there are any kids out then just don't answer the door. Simple really!

But with all the shops still having all the sweets ans mini packets I assume your sign is right.

The schools in my area are encouraging kids to still go out "Trick or Treating" (should be Guising!) and have been advising adults to leave pre-prepared bags outside the front door.

Like someone said above, the kids aren't gonna stick to 1 bag each, and worse some teens out and about will just take any they see.

The last time I put a real effort into things, I made up healthy goodie bags with bags of dried fruit and such in them.

The next morning on my way to work I found at least 20 of the bags of various thing I gave out just lying in the gutters. Not even the wildlife had touched them.

Someone on the local Facebook group did say it was nice to see some treats handed out that were healthy, and the pic they posted was of the things I'd included.

However it cost a lot more than buying the normal sweet stuff, and given how much was thrown away in disgust, I just went back to sweet the next year

Definitely not, parents shouldn't be allowing kids to go between doors this year and putting people in that position. We're trying to stop the spread so handing out bags or dipping into bowls isn't a safe option. But fair play to you for doing that normally, nice to see people getting involved with these things.

I normally have about 100-150 kids passing through and make a real effort to have loads of goodies, I was planning on making bags up in advance so they had a few days without contact to be safe and then don the nurses outfit with mask and rubber gloves to hand out a bag per person buuuut my daughter was ill and had to go for a covid test and shopping and plans went out window, results are in and negative but not really got time now so it’s outside light out and blinds closed this year

Is it not easier to buy some multipacks of Haribos or even skittles so that they are available. If the door gets chapped either answer or ignore it. Kids are missing out this year we are just dealing with it.
