For the first time in 30years

Edinburgh will look normal during November and December.

The locals of Edinburgh get there city back.

There is always an upside to having a global pandemic.

Someone's upside is always a local economy's down side. I do see where your coming from having to live and work during these events must be a pain but the impact on the economy will be millions of pounds which I'm sure will have a devastating effect in many industries.

You ‘might’ get your city back, but I reckon there’s a hell of a lot of businesses that will go under with loss of trade over the Christmas period.

I thought I read somewhere tgat they were going to up the lighting displays etc which might mean that Pricess garden turns into a walkway of Xmas lights. Or thats what I would do anyway

The same as what I use it for during the rest of the year. Taking a nice stroll during my break or after work. Sitting having a nice drink from a nearby Costa or Starbucks, read a paper or book, listen to a podcast. Any number of relaxing things you can do in amongst solem of the most beautiful scenery in the word in my opinion.

Is that reason enough for you, Zest?

It's sad really always a good atmosphere around that time and all the businesses that have folded or struggling badly cause of all this is terrible

Bit selfish is it not??? I always thought the gardens was for everyone to enjoy?

I do understand that you enjoy the quiet so that you can have your coffee and read your paper but others are also aloud to enjoy the gardens too and if that entails the hustle and bustle of the Christmas market then they are entirely entitled to do so. It’s all about compromising and sharing. Bit selfish to complain and moan because you can’t get exactly what you want for a few months of the year.

The gardens are hardly able to be enjoyed by everyone when they are locked up for months after being ripped up and swamped to fuck.

I wonder how businesses survived before the onslaught of the expansion of the fringe into a Christmas festival!

Covid and the lack of tourists are the driver to failing businesses.

Not a cancelled christmas festival.

If your business is souly tourist driven you would have been looking to diversify long before this time. If you did not. Then more fool them.

However, I remember the traditional walk to the tron to take in the bells. Without barriers and tickets.

General Edinburgh folk enjoying the calibration.

How many Edinburgher's got that chance once the festival took over?? I certainly didn't.

Now I will again spend a few hour amongst the locals and enjoy the good times once more.
