Newcastle

We are booking a weekend in Edinburgh for the beginning of next month and we were just wondering what the city bars are like at the moment? We were out in Newcastle last night and found that a lot of places were not taking walk ins even for drinks and wondered if Edinburgh is the same and we need to pre plan where we are going.

Any advice appreciated x

Edinburgh are the same.

The Grassmarket and down to the bridges were totally packed.

Definitely pre book before you go.

Booking is definitely required now. It really doesn't feel the same anymore sadly

Thanks everyone. We thought that may be the case and we need to actually organise ourselves. Any recommendations would be welcome. Not too fussed about area as we haven't booked our accommodation yet as still looking at a few options.

We also thought it doesn't feel the same anymore. Didn't feel like a Saturday night in the city at all. Bars are no longer packed and everyone seated. Was good to be out though and we did feel safe too which is the main thing

I’m from Edinburgh and live here too. I’ve been out a few times and still had a great time. It’s just the new normal. Pre book and you’ll be just fine. If the weather is going to be dry, book out smugglers first. It’s on top of Princes Mall and is outdoor. It also has the Edinburgh Gin bar there too. Head to Juniper Bar next for some cocktails which us just on Princess Street opposite smugglers. They do a deal - 5 for £30.

Don’t let Covid ruin your trip. There’s still loads of pubs to. Enjoy!

definitely seemed quiet, especially for this time of year. Still a great night out if you pre book though.

Somewhere over there

Thanks for the info! I've asked a (vanilla) friend for some ideas for restaurants as we're coming through as well. (was supposed to be the social weekend)

Only done 2 restaurants in Glasgow/Paisley up until now; not done pubs but as i have hearing loss, will prefer the quieter atmosphere as i an actually have a conversation, rather than fight against music and raucous crowds.

I'll check with Ian if any of those suggestions appeal

Millie

Also The Dome is open again on George Street if you like classy with a wow factor. It’s strange out there at the moment but we’ll get used to it, I’m sure!

If the weather is decent then the beer garden at the Pear tree is good. You can book 2hr slots. Its just round the corner from 57 north which is also good especially if your into gin.

Have fun.
