“Overwhelm the NHS, prove it cannot survive, begin the overseas third party privatisation”

This is our view of what’s going on, just ours and we could be wrong.

Over today we will all see the new slogan from the UK government, the relaxing colour scheme, less direct wording and what will probably be the relaxation of rules south of the border. Smells a bit fishy to us but the main worry is the increase of division it will no doubt cause between Scotland and our UK Neighbours.

What’s your thoughts on the next few weeks? Opinions so very welcome, please no arguing, we all see things differently

I think if it was about overwhelming the nhs to sell it off, they wouldn’t have bothered with a phase 1

I agree that its probably too soon to ease off, but we don’t even know what restrictions will be lifted yet and the only “fishy” reason is because they cant financially keep going the way they are now

Aul Nicola is a clever cookie. What I think she will do is follow BOJO but maybe 1 week behind him. If Bojo opens businesses again there's no way Nicola won't follow suit as she would have a riot on her hands if she tried to keep them closed for longer than perhaps a week. But she will follow a few days or no more than 1 week after Bojo. What this does is cover her arse. If a second wave comes she can claim the uk moral high ground claiming Bojo Fucked up first and she done her best for Scotland by lifting regulation a week later than him. She is very clever at spotting opportunities like this, this is a total win win situation for her.

Another certainty is the border, no chance on this planet will she close or police the border if timescales for lockdown differ. Watch this space.

"So what division's do you think will be created due to Scotland having different guidelines from England?"

There will absolutely be debate about scotland continuing with furlough from the uk tax pot if england are advised to go back to work , people are going go bd poorer than they have been for a long time so someone else getting a hand out is sure to cause tensions

While i have alot of respect for how she has handled the whole thing, for her honesty when addressing the country i am inclined to agree with what you just said

Its inevitable for any country, when lockdown gets eased, numbers will go up ... by hanging on a little longer its also easy to let england go up first and when the independence debate comes back around it will be the UK would have gladly let you die but we did what we could to save you

Although its also fair to say even if she genuinely thinks its too soon (which many do) she probably has no influence over boris to slow down

I still think even if the reason wasnt political it will very much he used for political gain in future

The idea of border closing is sensationalism.

NS has already said exactly that on Thursday.

What the Scottish police in conjunction with Cumbria police as an example is to continue to stop and turn back vehicles adjudged to not have a valid reason for travel.

The border will always remain open the folks using it will be policed though.

Agree on this also, but the flip side of that is that if she was to agree with the UK Government and relax, see the second wave (if it happens) rip through the UK, she would very quickly see her support dwindle. Double edged sword, who’d be a politician.

Police need information before they can judge if your reason is valid or not. Any ticket would be invalid as being out is not a reason for a fine. You can only incriminate yourself by giving them your reason for being out and them judge and jury your reason then and there. Simply say "I have a valid reason for being out", NOTHING ELSE.

Folks are being turned back though. I can foresee after today that will increase.

In the US they can’t close borders but can control who gets through them.

Policing is devolved and as such adhere to the Scottish govt.

police views are considered by the govt before any action is taken and if that scenario is unmanageable that will be taken into account also.

The courts decide and interpret the law. The coronavirus legislation specific to scotland has and is still in place. Failure to give a valid reason is covered in that legislation.

A concerning sign is that Northern Ireland and Wales both share the same stance as Nicola Sturgeon and Scotland meaning England will be the only nation in the UK to make changes. We both find that surprising and a bit telling.

South Korea and Germany’s infection rates are back on the rise after they eased lockdown restrictions.

Now is the time to lift it in my opinion. The summer months are less busy for the nhs and with all the nightingale hospitals we have the infrastructure to deal with it.

The thought of lockdown over summer then an increased infection rate going back into the winter is a scary prospect.

We were always just trying to delay it

Totally agree, it’s all a bit in the air as to what will happen. The concern, on our part, is the speed at what the other three governments have taken I voice their current stances will not change. We are all really just reading between the lines. By the end of the day we will all be more aware

I don’t think it’s straight forward at all and whatever the Scottish government or uk government do will be attached by people who don’t support them

Sweden never locked down at all. They have double Scotland’s population but less deaths

Norway did and have a really low death rate and plan to fully ease lockdown by the middle of June.

I feel the uk tried to shut the stable door after the horse had bolted so the lockdown measures aren’t as effective as they could have been and infection rates will soar again.

My point berring is the police are judge and jury whether a reason is valid or not. As goodie said in a previous post, the officer said to her what she was doing was ok, by the letter of the law , he was wrong , but his interpretation was that it was OK . Can you point me in the direction as to where I don't have the right to stay silent or simply say I have a valid reason to be out. I don't want some random cop making a decision on his interpretation of the law especially when it might cost me money. Or are we all now guilty until proven innocent.

At the risk of repeating myself continually for folks who can’t or won’t familiarise themselves with the legislation applicable to the corona virus scotland act the police interpret the act and the courts act on it.

Where did someone say you can’t remain silent ?

The valid reason or lack off is law as it currently stands so I’d imagine your silence would fall into the “lack off”

Scotland has a higher R rate for Covid 19 tan the rest of the UK. So to claim we are obeying the lockdown rules is nonsense. As for having a different rule for lockdown than the rest of the UK that's perfectly workable. We already have lots of rules that differ from other parts of the UK (we have a lower drink driving limit as an example). And the Tax money from HM Government UK will still be coming as its up to the SNP government how they spend that revenue.

If Johnson says black then Sturgeon will say white

Nicola Sturgeon was starting to talk about making plans in one of these many white papers she forever goes on about for easing lockdown a couple of weeks ago but now it looks like Boris Johnson May well be announcing plans to do similar she is now dead against it. She’s playing politics while playing with people lives

She had the cheek to say is going for a coffee necessary, well why is costa open, Nicola? Perhaps she could have shown some clear leadership and instructed that these establishments remained closed. Do not criticise other politicians for relaying mixed messages when you are clearly doing the exact same

She’s now on twitter saying “stay at home” well I can only say I’m grateful that none of my loved ones have to “stay at home” in a Scottish care home due to the utter incompetence that the Scottish government have been culpable for in dealing with our elderly care home residents, sending suspected COVID-19 patients back to care homes without knowing their test results is nothing short of disgraceful. Sturgeon along with Freeman and everyone else in the SG who endorse these actions have blood on their hands

This morning Freeman was asked about one of the many care home debacles and her reply was along the lines of I’m not sure on the updated guidance, yet it’s been published on the official website. We shouldn’t expect anything else from a woman who recently blamed care homes for the lack of PPE. The less said about her running of the project for the new sick kids in Edinburgh and the Glasgow hospital scandal the better

Just remember how the SNP and it’s cult followers blamed the older generations for their failure to gain independence

The pair of these clowns are so out of their depth it would be hilarious if it wasn’t so serious

I can hear the moon howlers already now that someone has dared to criticise their dear leader

"If Johnson says black then Sturgeon will say white

Yes indeed i felt his post veered on that line.

Wrong. The U.K. has the worst recorded deaths in Europe. Other countries aren’t recording deaths in care homes and deaths at home etc and only recording hospital deaths but don’t let facts get in the way of your agenda

Other countries i.e. Spain and Italy’s health services were crippled and had people dying on hospital floors and corridors. Some hospitals in the U.K. have been so underwhelmed they’ve even had time to rehearse and record tick tock videos in empty wards

And your last sentence sums up your bigoted and xenophobic ideology. You’re no longer worth debating. You can only tell someone to leave the country as you have no coherent counter response

Good day

The coronavirus legislation specific to scotland has and is still in place. Failure to give a valid reason is covered in that legislation.

"

I'm not trying to argue berring I'm simply asking you to show or point me to the section where my silence constitutes a lack of a valid reason, where it is covered. What section ? so i can familiarise myself as you suggest. I dont see it. For my benefit not the benefit of argument.

I could easily go to town on criticising Johnson, Cummings et al but it’s the Sturgeon and Freeman led Scottish national health service which will directly effect me and my family. The Scottish national health service which only benchmark is that “it’s not as bad as England’s”

All leaders of countries, businesses, institutions etc have difficult enough decisions to make without people’s agenda’s getting in the way. I don’t think this is the right time to be talking about divides, politics or telling someone they can leave the country if their opinion isn’t the same as yours.

So you get stopped. Police ask for a valid reason.

You don’t give a reply. Can you see where this is going "

No I can't see where it's going, .

My point was the police can only interpret the law, and make judgements on the reasons you give . Those judgements are based on what we volutarily tell them.

My advice is to only say "I have a valid reason to be out" Anything else means the police can decide yes or no as valid.

You pointed to legislation saying I can't do that and repeated it for people unfamiliar with it.

Can you plz tell me what section says I must give them an actual reason. All I'm asking.

So, no I can't see where it's going , can you tell me. ?

All leaders of countries, businesses, institutions etc have difficult enough decisions to make without people’s agenda’s getting in the way. I don’t think this is the right time to be talking about divides, politics or telling someone they can leave the country if their opinion isn’t the same as yours.

If you hate scotland so much there is an open border was what I said.

Can you show me where I said anyone with a differing opinion to mines should leave?

Can you show me where he said he hated scotland? "

You’re mask slipped here mate. You assumed he hated Scotland as he didn’t agree with something you did. Everyone is welcome here and they have a right to an opinion. All you have to do is highlight where you read he hated it here and why you want him to leave. I think I’ll be waiting a while though

"If Johnson says black then Sturgeon will say white

The UK has the worst corona deaths in Europe and your blaming NS ?

If you hate scotland so much there is an open border.

I didn’t read anywhere on that where he said he hated scotland. Does he not have the same right to an opinion as anyone else without being asked to leave the country if it’s different from yours? Seems like a bigoted attitude by definition of the word "

I think they both sounded bitter and bigoted tbh, i’m a unionist and even i thought that anti snp rant was ridiculous

Glasgow/ Manchester

I think the countries stance is quite clear and was to be expected. Allowing more than once exercise hour per day is a good step, most were not adhering to the one day however some were.

Now we wait for the next update from London, I found her request to London that their new yellow and green slogan, which Iv used as the threads title, isn’t to be used north of the border, quite key. She will take a slower approach but we knew that. It does seem fair to suggest we all take different paths if we all show different infection rates.Time will tell.

Cmon guys, keep it civil and calm, we are in this together afterall

I have looked, I don't see where it says my silence will be contrued as not having a valid reason.

It says I MUST HAVE a valid reason to be out

But it dosnt say I am obliged to tell an officer when asked.

They can't fine someone for simply being outside.

Hopefully you will understand the difference.

Giving a reason is what will get you the fine if the plod deems it unnecessary.

Not giving a reason means he can only assume you don't have a valid reason to issue that fine, no court in the world can enforce an assumption.

Still waiting for that legislation you claimed we are not familiar with, changing the subject won't change the fact you make comments to show your superior but when called out on them your not very forthcoming with the answers.

I have made clear my concerns and highlighted the failings of the SNP led Scottish government during this pandemic. This is however being treated as an snp bad anti snp rant though

If it was labour, conservatives or the Monster Raving Loony party who had handled any of my highlighted concerns with the same incompetence then I would have posted the same post

Alot of people in the care sector will disagree. Nicola is good at talking about what she planned to do but was far too late in putting things in place putting many at risk.

Well it’s quite simple really. I would have thought someone with a degree in politics would have been able to figure it out

For decades come election time people constantly hear from the other parties that the conservatives are going to sell the nhs off. Whether they hear it from media outlets with a specific agenda, door to door canvassers, from candidates on tv debates, interviews and social media or whether it’s from members of the public just relaying off mis-information

For someone with a degree in politics who has toned it down so us simpletons can engage I’m surprised even you couldn’t decipher that

Yeah it was totally dumb to announce there would be an announcement in 4 days time ... just left people 4 days to speculate and make their own minds up about what they would be doing

Exactly this. Let's the media run wild with headlines. Causing more confusion than is needed. It's quite clear that each of the 4 nations are governed by respective govts except on reserved matters ie external borders. Public health and policing are devolved. Ergo we need to listen to scottish advice.

I said recently that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing and what people dont know as fact they make up. Speculation everywhere doesnt help. I believe most of the population are sensible beings and are following guidelines to best suit their circumstances. We need to stop bitching at each other for taking the dog an extra walk or driving for 2 mins to avoid people to go to a secluded area. The law is not black and white and at the moment is only guidelines and opinions until its trsted in a court of law.

Rant over. Stay safe

"If Johnson says black then Sturgeon will say white

I think you are being purposefully obtuse, rumours of the nhs being sold off are in the media all the time, it doesn’t matter if its a reputable source or not, the impression that its an issue is being given to the public

and wether you want to use the word arguing or debating, the irony is you are both making the same point that rumour or not , its not actually being sold off

You are just both so desperate not to concede to the other that you cant see for once you are on the same side of this

And as for the NHS - in Scotland, it’s controlled by Holyrood and is 100% devolved so cannot be “sold off”

If anything, the Scottish Government are just as guilty of privatisation by stealth. Their use of private beds and hospitals amounts to tens if not hundreds of millions every year

Shes just saying exactly what I said what she would say , if she needs to leave current lockdown criteria a few days longer than the rest of uk then that's what she will do lmao.

That's pure politics, she can say she stayed in lockdown longer so she's covered her ass if it goes tits up.

Nothing said by bojo or NS is a surprise. Obviously restrictions will need slowly eased at least BOJO is trying to give timescales for the public . NS is saying it will be when she says so. That's not a leader in my opinion, that's someone playing a game. Whatever Bojo says , add 1 week to scotland's timescale. Simple !!

She has previous for manipulating targets and deadlines.

Remember the opening of the Queensferry Crossing? She announced a date that it would open then at the same time said it would then close after a few days. The Projected target from memory was August. She opened the bridge during the last week of August then shut the bridge after a couple of days fully opening it again in September.

He’s doing more for breaking the union than the other 3 nations combined

Staunch unionists are actually seething

"If there is a second wave in scotland it will due to the UK govt ineptitude not NS.

The message from the devolved nations is clear. Stay home, protect the NHS and save lives.

Ehhh ? The uk government ? I thought NS had her own criteria so it falls on her head surely ."

Unfortunately devolution only has so much power.

Say what you want about NS but her handling of this is streets ahead.

"I’m beginning to think Sweden got it right

I don’t think they did but there’s a case to be made for let’s get this over with. We have now built the nightingale hospitals, we are coming into quieter months for the nhs in general so let’s have our spike by lifting all restrictions and letting people catch it

What an absolutely callous statement

"

If you don’t like it you know what to do and all that patter.

We can all judge that statement. When your drawing your last breathe alone or a loved one be reminded of your herd immunity callousness should you be infected.

It's just a shame there gonna be idiots that will do/go wherever they want.if the more savvy folk of the country can all just take it slowly and be sensible hopefully things wont be as bad as it was.

Wishful thinking I know

We call all judge any statement, don’t need a political degree to do that.

The only way we are going to stop people catching it is to find a vaccine. That’s a long way off. I would rather take my chances of catching it in the summer when I’m more likely to get a bed and proper medical attention than in the winter when it’s busier.

Whilst I get your point I just don’t think it’s manageable to stop people catching it without a vaccine. Restrictions will need to be lifted at some point

I’m declaring allegiance to Scotland at my Buckinghamshire address for the duration of this crisis. Clear advice to stay home. Chequers isn’t about 10 miles from here and Boris wlll be there too often for my liking. I think Boris has loosened up too soon and it will be interesting how people get to work on 10% of the transport provision.

Herd immunity was plan A and we all seen how that worked out.

I think we are now somewhere in between now as measures were taken to late.

Example is Norway who implemented measures early and are ready to end restrictions

Sweden didn’t act but still had less deaths per head of population than Scotland

Sweden has seen a large care home influx now being reported.

I just think to much to soon will set us back in a worse position. Everything is up in the air now.

Folks down south literally think a switch has been turned on and it’s business as usual.

I’ve not spoken to anyone down south in the past 3 hours but I will tomorrow and I’ll ask them if they expect anything major to change

Some people need to understand what a public address to nation actually is. He stated quite clearly that full plans will be discussed tomorrow in parliament

It was refreshing to see a detailed plan of what as of the now the science will hopefully allow unlike Nicole Sturgeon who will come out in the coming days and do the same just so she could be different

No doing tomorrow we’ll see Boris hand the simple crotfer* frae the heilinds, Blackford his arse, which he so often does

* Blackfords own words
