If a somebody you did not know collapsed in the street would you go to assist or would you stay well clear due to social distancing?

Something kinda similar to this happened a few weeks ago. I was out, a woman lost her footing and slipped and fell off the kerb. Instictively ran towards her to help and she reacted as though I had a chainsaw in my hand.

Im going to be honest here & say my instincts would be to go help aid them.

if it was a case of giving mouth to mouth hmmmm Im afraid the fear would stop me however I would start chest compressions if a heart attack was suspected.

if it was someone who had fallen over then yes again id help them

A lady lost her footing a couple of weeks ago at the shops I had no hesitation to go help her. Got her up walked her to her car, went back to pick up her shopping and put it in her boot. Took her trolley back for her too. I'd be horrified to think someone would ignore someone I cared about in that situaton.

I have no first aid training what so ever so there is absolutely no use in me assisting. If there was no one else around then sure, I'd call 999 and ask what they wanted me to do

This is because of people who will sue them for not doing things properly if they injured them because of what they did to them giving first aid.

I think most people's natural reaction is to help.a few years ago,about 20,(where the feck has the time gone,lol)I was doing building work in Stirling high street when a passerby had a fit.the guy was in his 30s,managed to help him,making sure he didn't do himself unnecessary damage etc,got him a drink of water.he then got up and gave me a barrage of abuse and told me to feck off.it wouldnt put me off helping again.once they walked of one of the group he was with came back and thanked me for helping. Natural instinct to help I think.

Assist, 100%. Would not have the heart to let someone suffer. I respect the social distancing rules, but human instinct in such situations overrule it. If you didn’t help, that could be a life lost!

Assist every time. It’s human nature and it overrides the temporary instructions we are currently following. Ironically I’m better equipped now with gloves and mask in my possession at all times so I would actually feel safer for them and myself.

I currently work for 111, I know the dangers of doing the wrong thing if you don't know what you're doing. So at this exact moment, if someone collapsed in the street and there were other people around who knew what to then I would just walk past. No point of me getting in the way

To be fair bluebelle if people are already assisting there isnt much more anyone else can do unless they are trained medics in which case they should say they are & step forward .

You could ask for a first aid course at work, some coys pay staff extra for that qual or used to do.

I helped save a life once, simple tongue flick to allow breathing,

moral dont swallow your tongue when sleeping.

Iv found myself in this position at work and instantly tried to help without even thinking about it. I got a thankyou from the family and managers for going over and above the call of duty...

It's always in the back of my mind though if I make matters worse i leave myself open for a lawsuit.

When I worked in comet I was trained in first aid and when one of our colleagues collapsed in the locker room I was the only one out of the ones trained that would help

Would help, my first aid needs renewed but doubt that its changed much, always have a mouth guard for mouth to mouth along with other first aid basics in my work and gym bags.

Although few items do need replaced. Something to do during lockdown i suppose

You can only be sued if you're medically trained and then cause injury, for basic first aid trained individuals you are fine, my pal says most of the nurses in her deot have broke more than a few ribcage in their time resussing patients

Was in this situation a few weeks ago going to work, waiting on bus and an elderly lady who had about 6 layers of clothes on and 3 laden shopping bags collapsed (on one of our warm days) threat to life had to become before social distancing, so stayed with her till ambulance came (missed my bus as well)
