Should the pause button be pressed to concentrate our efforts and finances on supporting those in need and fighting this virus ?

There would be no shame in it.

Should overseas aid package be cut until UK and the people of the UK have recovered and the country is back up and running?

"Should overseas aid package be cut until UK and the people of the UK have recovered and the country is back up and running?"

No,why is that relevant ? why don’t you try and answer the OPs question? I personally think Brexit will have to be postponed for a few months

"Plenty of time yet to make that decision depending on how the virus pans out"

Haven't trade talks already been delayed ?

Isn't the deadline for substantial agreement June ?

Will the virus be gone by April ?

Why ? im sure the people working on trade negotiations are not the same team who are trying to sort the epidemic out.

Pausing Brexit won't stop the financial ruin. And will serve no purpose to those who orchestrated it. So I can't see the point to it

If the government can magic hundreds of billions of pounds out of thin air to bail out banks - and now the entire economy - why can't they do it to smooth out all the damage Brexit will do?

I think it's because he will say the money is being loaned to business, it's not a gift, and it's you and me that will pay it back in higher taxes for the rest of our lives

The government borrowed the money, but they borrowed it off us and our children.

He did have some money set aside to cushion brexit but I guess that's long gone now.

Honestly ?

I don't know.

If you remember, we have had 12 years of austerity for bailing out the banks at a fraction of what's happened now

Yes I think there should,Brexit can wait a year, the world needs to fight the virus together.I hope that most brexiteers would agree with this.

If this happens then the small minded will call Boris a lier but he did not cause corona virus

Any sensible government would postpone BREXIT now for at least 6 to 12 months. But then any really sensible government simply wouldn't do BREXIT any how.

However it's all a bit mute really. The effect of BREXIT to the economy, good or bad, is as a pin prick compared to the effect Corona is going to have.

We all, on both sides of the BREXIT divide, need to get things into proportion.

Anyhow the key is Brexit + Coronovirus will cripple the country. Double impact.

Wow.

In a global context, it is going to be a hard recovery.

Economically isolating ourselves from our nearest neighbours and trying to negotiate new arrangements with everyone else whilst they are focused inwards will multiply our problems.

Proper wages require a job. We will not do ourselves any favours in achieving this.

Your choice of confrontational vocabulary is still stuck in 2016.

Well done moving on

Fear. Anger. Invasion. All in a word.

Perhaps you don't even realise what your doing. Perhaps you do.

I'd like you to explain the mechanism by which we make a faster, stronger recovery by isolating ourselves from the EU and simultaneously trying to negotiate trade deals with countries looking to their own, internal issues.

Give it a go.

Labour is cheap for jobs that require little skill. Labour is expensive for those that do. Otherwise you buy machinery.

Are you saying that locals in fast recovering countries will not accept the available jobs? Why would that be the case?

As we have always had the ability to do, any EU country only has to accept workers. If the jobs are filled they cannot stay. If the jobs are vacant then they are necessary.

You have long ago stopped arguing that there is any benefit in this. Now it's just a belief, and no more than a belief, that we'll be better off than someone else.

Claiming that a complicated internal negotiation between 27 countries should be easy compared to the UK being unable to work out what it wants for over three years.

High hopes and aspirations indeed.

That's a rather foolish generalisation isn't it?

They are a large country with a great deal of resources but not all.

They have some great scenery and some really miserable, rundown urban landscapes.

There are some really great people and some really horrible ones.

Just like everywhere else.

There it is. The on-going subtext of every discussion when there is nothing except faith to support a position.

People who disagree with what's being done and forsee serious consequences and problems that need addressing hate their country

Still the language of division.

Also the contradiction at the core of Brexit. The EU had a coordinated position z bit now it will collapse into chaos because we want it to.

The EU forces countries to act against their will and interests, but the EU will collapse because countries act in their self-interest.

The desire for "strong" government but hating a "strong" EU. Admiring Putin and Oban who's country's are not doing well by their people and are silencing the press and controlling the judiciary.

We will absolutely be hampered by everyone else's rules. Not just the EU because we will have absolutely no influence on anything. We will just have to follow them.

You are, literally, writing down the contradictions in your own argument and conveniently ignoring several of the questions exposing your previous confusion.

Maybe I'm stupid but

Corona virus is the first serious test of the UK govermment in decades, probably since the second world war

Who thinks they have succeeded in doing all the right things so far to minimise the effect of the virus

Who thinks the same hollow promises will apply to their ability to recover post Corona and post brexit

I've no doubt the British people have the resolve and determination to succeed in whayever is thrown at them, unfortunately it will be the government who has to lead the people and I'm not 100% convinced they can. Regardless of which party is in power.

High hopes and aspirations indeed.I think the people of the uk have always known what they wanted and now we have boris they are getting it,you cannot compare the withdrawal treaty with a trade negotiation. The withdrawal was a shambles because the eu had everyone singing off the same page where as we had people trying to stop brexit at any cost. Now the shoe is on the other foot we have a strong government who know exactly what they want and the eu with each country wanting was is best for them.Yes unlike you i have great faith in the country and our businesses to recover much quicker than europe as we will not be hampered by their rules and beable to make our own based on what is best for the country at the time.

You are, literally, writing down the contradictions in your own argument and conveniently ignoring several of the questions exposing your previous confusion."

You see it as you like we can resume this conversation when its all over.At the moment its totally pointless you have your view of britain and i have mine just as you did on brexit.

"Maybe I'm stupid but

Corona virus is the first serious test of the UK govermment in decades, probably since the second world war

Who thinks they have succeeded in doing all the right things so far to minimise the effect of the virus

Who thinks the same hollow promises will apply to their ability to recover post Corona and post brexit

I've no doubt the British people have the resolve and determination to succeed in whayever is thrown at them, unfortunately it will be the government who has to lead the people and I'm not 100% convinced they can. Regardless of which party is in power."

There have been a few crises since ww2 but not maybe on this scale, it's not the government I'm worried about it's all the idiots panic buying and going into melt down that's the issue

But with respect, the government could and should be doing more.

Example

Try to get a delivery date from any supermarket who deliver

How do those quarantined get food ?

The government should instruct deliveries to be prioritised to the over 60s and those self isolating.

Not easy but hey that's what we pay those arse holes to do and if they can't or won't do it then we've no hope

Yeah, I know. I went into my local Co-op the other day and they still had loo-role, pasta, rice and serials so I brought most of them just in case some idiot came in later and panic brought them all.

"And in MY opinion the USA was already becoming more and more insular and this could mean they will try to be completely self sufficient and close off all contact with the rest of the world for quite some time

Still there's always .......

the usa can do that, they have all that is required, great country, great people, great scenery

That's a rather foolish generalisation isn't it?

They are a large country with a great deal of resources but not all.

They have some great scenery and some really miserable, rundown urban landscapes.

There are some really great people and some really horrible ones.

Just like everywhere else."

after 30 years of traveling the roads of USA and Hawaiian Islands,

as well as living and working in USA, I consider the United States of America one of the greatest countries of the World, if I had the choice of living anywhere in the World I would again Choose usa, probably settling in Wyoming

now tell me why that is foolish, is it because you do not like the country or indeed because you like to pick on me and try and stir shit, why is it wrong for me to say I love the Country.

Reading not working for you today?

Why do you hate the UK so much?

I don't actually think that you do, but that is the default response if you compare the UK unfavourably to anywhere else. So enjoy that

I actually wrote that the USA has good things and bad things.

Are you genuinely unable to accept that to be true?

Why are you playing the victim now?

I guess with your health issues (you flagged them up in the past) you cant afford or get the health insurance you need to carry on living in the states and have decided to return to the old country and rely on the NHS? I dont mean to sound judgemental, its just that it’s becoming a more common trait amongst the boomers, to return home and berate those who care about their country for facing up to the future ills that they are bringing home.

not at all, I have very good private health insurance which covers all illness whether past or present, that is one bonus of working for an oil company in the top 5

This means that when you retire you can choose to continue the cover at excellent reduced rates, its not often you can get medical insurance that covers past illness / injury should it re-occur

nice to see you have interest and follow me lol

"Any sensible government would postpone BREXIT now for at least 6 to 12 months.

Any sensible government would go against the will of the people? i would think that would be the action of a foolish government."

Seems like the government is a little less dogmatic and bit more sensible than you then.
