"Italy were trying to unfairly give competition advantage to sardinia's tourism industry by giving them tax payers money/tax breaks (state aid). That's like our government giving money to London hotels to encourage tourism there but not hotels anywhere else in the country. Good on the EU courts for trying to make things fair." " So what if Italy gets EU funding: Coronavirus Response Investment Initiative -€853 million of liquidity -to be topped up by €1.6 billion from the EU budget -Moreover, be able to spend €9 billion of unallocated cohesion money, half of witch from EU budget. I'm sure it will help Italians.

"Typical EU. However, the nation who inflicted this on the world, the increasingly unaccoubrable China, are the ones who people should direct their anger toward, everything that surrounds Corona is a consequence of their fucking around with nature, in a nutshell. Still, if Corona did come from one if their Wuhan Chemical/Biological Warfare facilities at least they know it works now, don't they, eh? " If you want to get angry, you could focus on the UK leaders and what they are now doing. China has managed to get a decline in the virus infections, whereas the UK is going for a different strategy, not seeking to gain a global approach, whilst supporting greater levels of infection and deaths. A global crisis should have global strategies and countries working together as mature adults do.

Just because it is different to that of other countries, that doesn't make it wrong. The historical precedent is that following quarantine there will then be reinfection. What will have changed? The illness has not been eliminated. One person will restart the epidemic. If there is enough low level infection and recovery then it cannot spread as easily as through an unprotected population.

It's simply that many people are willing to think of China, or other ethnic or religious or political groups as being capable of doing things that they would dismiss out of hand for their "own". This is not unique. Demonising the "other" is hardly new. Pretending racism is not involved in the thinking is a fantasy. ...and yes, I also have prejudices which I am aware of that I actively have to address when I'm forming a judgement.

In my opinion, thinking that this is a plan of conspiracy from China is stupid. No way they could have done such a thing intentionally. Having said that, I hope China learns from it. This is not the first time the country has been a source of a viral disease. We still are not hundred percent sure about the exact source of it. Still, they should do something about their food hygiene. Not a big fan of telling what to eat and what not to eat. But the government should impose hygiene regulations on food and also the markets in which they are sold. Then they should make sure that the regulations are followed.

" Obviously when I asked primarily about what the source of the conspiracy theory was and why it was credible, the most important thing to focus on was the throwaway comment at the end In what cases would they be right? What cases are pertinent to a conspiracy theory about a China losing control of a "bioweapon" which kills indiscriminately?

Pooling resources is 27 countries distributing research and development resources and information so that they are not repeating the same work. More can get done than every country doing the same thing. Not that difficult a concept to grasp.

I didn't think EU states had the power to control their own borders..... Well I never..... Yeah seems like the 1st sign of trouble and its fuck the rules. " This is from the European Commission. Guess what, we had the right to do all sorts of things in the EU. Who'd have guessed? "The Schengen Borders Code provides Member States with the capability of temporarily reintroducing border control at the internal borders in the event that a serious threat to public policy or internal security has been established. The reintroduction of border control at the internal borders must remain an exception and must respect the principle of proportionality. The scope and duration of such a temporary reintroduction of border control at the internal borders is limited in time and should be restricted to the bare minimum needed to respond to the threat in question. Reintroducing border control at the internal border should only ever be used as a measure of last resort. The reintroduction of border control is a prerogative of the Member States. The Commission may issue an opinion with regard to the necessity of the measure and its proportionality but cannot veto such a decision if it is taken by a Member State."
