Medical "experts" are scientists who deal in facts and do experiments to prove their theories. they are dealing in this case with one virus and how it will behave compared to all the other viruses.

Economists use guesses even if they are educated ones to make predictions about how in the case of the UK 40 plus million adults will react to certain economic news etc etc, each action will generate a reaction so on and so forth, hence my term guess.

If you cant see the difference between these two types of experts then give it some thought

He has stated he's skeptical and doesn't understand it.

But I was more poking fun at the poster who is a well known climate change denier.

No. It's not really that different at all.

Both virologists and epidemiologists study precious desease to understand how they function biologically and how they spread. They also use simulations based on previous data to try to extrapolate what will happen with a new outbreak. However, these are approximations using available, bit incomplete data and experience.

Economics is much the same when not politicised.

People will believe experts if they are scared and need reassurance. People do not believe experts when they are angry and want to blame someone.

We are dealing with one virus not 40 million adults taking 40 million little decisions that added together each day make any prediction a guess.

Well actually

Prediction of the The spread and impact of the virus is exactly that predicting the movements and actions and habits and opinions of billions of individual humans on the planet

The virus is easy to understand the human interactions causing its spread not so and human reactions to advice even less so

But yes you live in your bubble thinking Brexit prediction no more than a roulette wheel

And virus prediction as solid as the si unit for a kg

Central

It all depends on who is wanted to be the object of responsibility or for shouldering any blame. He likes to take credit for anything potentially positive, even if lies but is creepily irresponsibile otherwise.

This week we suddenly have 10,000 likely infections - without mention that he's been in charge throughout that time. Suddenly getting the majority of the population infected is a goal, now it's supposedly experts calling the shots. Die happy, as it wasn't him.

Now it appears that the scientific advice is being overturned because fear is making people demand the closure of events.

We are now going to do what every other country is doing. We are not trusting in our own data and process. We are following everyone else.

Our much vaunted prize of independent action ditched at the first test because of anger at government "inaction" even though it is thought out. Point proven.

At this moment herd mentality humans do

Humans fear and misinformation are a recipe for all manner of irrational unpredictable quite nasty behaviour

Brexiteers somehow managed to twist the word "expert" into a negative term meaning someone not worth listening to.

Just read the comments on here. How many times do you see the phrase "so called experts".

Look how easy is it is to convince people of anything.

Climate change isn't real

Brexit is good

Etc

People would vote for the Coronovirus if Boris wrote it on the side of a bus and told them to. What do these so called experts know anyway!
