Office for National Statistics https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/personalandhouseholdfinances/incomeandwealth/bulletins/householddisposableincomeandinequality/financialyearending2019" Thanks for providing a link. It's nice when people provide sources for a change. It'll take some time to properly read all that, though.

"From a skim of your link: "Average income of the poorest fifth of people fell by 4.3% per year on average between FYE 2017 and FYE 2019"" Fig.3 shows the top 20% earning less now than they did 10years ago and the other 4 brackets earning more now than they did 10years ago Last 10 years of Tory rule has made the poor richer and the rich poorer.

"Under the Tories in the last 10 years the poorer have become richer and the rich have become poorer. Those in the top 20% earning bracket are 5% worse off now . Those in all the other earning brackets are 5% better off now. " Confused. So you don't like the Tories anymore if you don't think there fucking poor people over?

" It is a set of figures that do not take into account the facts of more cars on the road, more overseas travel etc.I would say there is poverty which is wrong in many cases but many druggies, alcoholics and people with self caused debt out there. It is complicated. Also this gap happened under labour it is a world wide fact caused by globalisation.

"Under the Tories in the last 10 years the poorer have become richer and the rich have become poorer. Those in the top 20% earning bracket are 5% worse off now . Those in all the other earning brackets are 5% better off now. " Everybody's income fell from 2008 to 2013. Global recession. Remember that? Everybody's income grew from 2013. A large part of the increase in income of the poorest comes from increases in the income tax threshold that were introduced by the LibDems under protest from the Tories. Until they realised it was popular. This becomes more apparent once wages start to increase from 2013. All income growth has been stagnant for the last two years despite, apparently, there being full employment. The poorest have become substantially poorer. Much more so than the richest. That's what explains the rise in food bank use. Many of those "in work" are barely earning whilst their benefits have also been cut. The richest have only become marginally poorer in the last two years. They were growing wealthier since 2013. The tax burden has barely increased so they must be earning less. You are completely misreporting the data. Which paper did you see the article in? You didn't look at the report did you? "Growth in median income stalled between FYE 2017 and FYE 2019 growing on average by 0.4% per year, compared with 3.0% per year between FYE 2013 and FYE 2017. Median income for the poorest fifth of people fell by 4.3% per year over the two years up to FYE 2019, following average annual growth of 3.4% over the four years leading up to FYE 2017. Median income of the richest fifth also fell between FYE 2017 and FYE 2019 (0.4% per year), meaning that despite average annual growth of 1.7% per year between FYE 2013 and FYE 2017, average income remains lower than levels reached prior to the economic downturn in FYE 2008. Median income for people living in retired households and non-retired households over the two years leading up to FYE 2019 increased by 0.5% and 0.3% per year respectively; this compares with the period between FYE 2013 and FYE 2017, where average annual growth for these groups was 3.1% and 2.7% respectively."

"What's funny here is that it definitely hasn't been the Tories intention to decrease income for the richest quartile. So really this is just showing that they're incompetent " The figures quoted by the OP are vague and misleading . I can assure you that the top 1% of the richest people in the uk have increased their wealth in the last 10 years.

I think 5% of the richest people's money will definitely be noticed by them. You don't get rich by not worrying about a 5% drop in anything, especially your own income or wealth. But isn't it all a bit irrelevant. The question is surly not whether the rich or poor are richer or poorer than they where before but whether the poor are too poor (I think so) or the rich are too rich (I'm not sure you can be). The other two big things I get from this is that, across all groups, we're hardly 5% better off now than we were in 2008. That's not great for any one. The other is that the trend for the poor is currently going down; that's not good news either.

As for the more intentional, "levelling up" - I guess we'll see. They have another five years - at least - to prove themselves. I have my doubts that they're really committed to evening out the massive disparity in wealth they helped New Labour to create and maintain. I'd be happy - and amazed - to be proven wrong.
