The new Boris Bridge

Work is underway scoping out the cost and logistics of building a bridge between N Ireland and Scotland.

By the time it is built (if it ever gets past the questionable geological analysis) there is a reasonable possibility that the British tax payers will have paid for a bridge between an Independent Scotland and a unified Ireland.

The guy is potted in the head.

I'm sure Sweden and Denmark had the same worries. Maybe Hong Kong and Macau did as well. At the moment, its just an idea that's being floated, a feasibility and costings study.

At the narrowest point, it's 12 miles but the talked about route is 21 miles. Engineering wise, it's doable. Politically, maybe not.

One problem however, is the amount of dumped WW2 ordanance in the area.

. Didn't see this in the Labour manifesto , so why blame Corbyn for such an idiotic idea ? , this is well and truly owned by Johnson and the Conservative and Unionist party ,,although I didn't spot it in the Tory manifesto either,,

£Tens of millions were wasted on the London garden bridge, without a brick etc ever put in to place. If you have friends who could contribute who would like some cash, make friends with Johnson ASAP.

The UK is awash with too much money, without anything that's needing improvements. Why not let Johnson spaff some of your money up the wall, as he really likes to do! Don't be mean. Next, they'll extend the M4 over to Ireland, after draining the sea and creating a huge car park opportunity too.

it wouldn't be one tunnel... in effect you would probably need to build 6 tunnels as part of the project (2 for cars, 2 for trains and 1 escape tunnel for each)

it would be a huge project but as _ercury said there is a huge dumped ww2 bomb problem in the area they would need to build....

Britain's Trump, Boris the buffoon, has form in wasting millions of pounds of taxpayers' money in ill-conceived projects and purchases, such as bendy buses, riot control vehicles, Routemaster buses and the garden bridge.

He really ought to stay clear of transport decisions and do the country a massive favour by searching out a suitable ditch.

Articulated buses were down to Ken Livingston.

The new design Routemaster is a modern bus, well suited to London., and is certainly not a failure.

Way better idea tunnelling under 1million tuns of WW2 explosives!

Instead of wasting the money, why not invest in Social Care and the NHS? Oh yes, I forgot this is from the Tory’s...

Still doesn't make them a success. They cost almost twice as much as a standard double decker and had a lower capacity. Fare evasion was higher than others, so the open platform was stopped - its key USP. They would have failed emissions requirements for central London, adding to the huge pollution levels there. Refit costs add too, if openable windows etc required. Another vanity project wasting public money.

More loss of land for the comoany as part of the deal though.

The new owner Bamford may well have 6 months of work lined up up for there new acquisition.
