Hiding from twats

It's toilet roll you should be stocking up on, it comes over from Europe as wet pulpy stuff and if it's delayed too long starts to solidify before it can be turned into paper.

I doubt it. But if there was to be a negative impact on food coming from the EU, I suspect that it'll effect Lidl and Aldi the most seeing quite a lot of their food comes from there.

I don't think there will be a food shortage no matter what's the outcome of the trade negotiations. The only question is 'to what price?', not only monetary but also in terms of quality and standards.

From 2301 hrs, 31 January 2020, with the UK no longer bring a member of the EU, it will be able to negotiate trade deals with whoever it wishes without the EU telling us No. Last time I checked , trade deals take a tadge longer than one minute to agree. Can anyone tell me which trade deals between countries have been negotiated and agreed in one minute ?. Awaiting replies with interest .

Totally agree with you , I would also have thought it would take longer than one minute ,,but we were not told it would take a minute to complete a deal (40 deals ) , we were told the deals had been done and were ready to be announced one minute after we left ,, one week after we left still no announcement of any deals ,,

The fact is that the UK needs to thrive, and also hope that the EU continues to succeed economically.

If people want to frame this as ‘us vs them’ then they’re actually hoping for Brexit to be self-harming - masochism.

The UK and mainland Europe are economically symbiotic.

From the BBC News website dated 1 Feb 2020;

What trade deals has the UK done so far?

While it was an EU member, the UK was automatically part of around 40 trade deals the EU had struck with more than 70 countries.

In the run-up to Brexit, the UK was given permission to replicate these agreements. So far, the UK has managed to roll over 20 "continuity" deals, covering 50 countries or territories:

Kosovo (trade worth £8m in 2018)

Jordan (trade worth £448m in 2018)

Morocco (trade worth £2.5bn in 2018)

Georgia (trade worth £123m in 2018)

Southern African nations (trade worth £10.2bn in 2018)

Tunisia (trade worth £542m in 2018)

Lebanon (trade worth £762m in 2018)

South Korea (trade worth £14.8bn in 2018)

Central America (trade worth £1.1bn in 2018)

Andean countries (trade worth £3.4bn in 2018)

Norway and Iceland (trade worth £30.6bn in 2018)

Caribbean countries (trade worth £3.7bn in 2018)

Pacific Islands (trade worth £163m in 2018)

Liechtenstein

Israel (trade worth £4.2bn in 2018)

Palestinian Authority (trade worth £41m in 2018)

Switzerland (trade worth £32.4bn in 2018)

The Faroe Islands (trade worth £252m in 2018)

Eastern and Southern Africa (trade worth £2bn in 2018)

Chile (trade worth £2bn in 2018)

Did you know that the USA literally has a ‘fill-in-the-blanks’ trade deal that is offered to new smaller nations? And it’s basically sign here and we have a deal, or don’t sign here and we don’t? No negotiations involved.

Be wary of Johnson signing one of those and proclaiming it as a massive success.

Yes true but trade etc continues as normal until 31/12/2020 then brexit really begins , customs in the Irish sea , duties etc.

The effects on trade , business and day to day life will not be felt until then.At that stage we will see if it is a positive outlook.

"From the BBC News website dated 1 Feb 2020;

What trade deals has the UK done so far?

While it was an EU member, the UK was automatically part of around 40 trade deals the EU had struck with more than 70 countries.

In the run-up to Brexit, the UK was given permission to replicate these agreements. So far, the UK has managed to roll over 20 "continuity" deals, covering 50 countries or territories:

Kosovo (trade worth £8m in 2018)

Jordan (trade worth £448m in 2018)

Morocco (trade worth £2.5bn in 2018)

Georgia (trade worth £123m in 2018)

Southern African nations (trade worth £10.2bn in 2018)

Tunisia (trade worth £542m in 2018)

Lebanon (trade worth £762m in 2018)

South Korea (trade worth £14.8bn in 2018)

Norway and Iceland (trade worth £30.6bn in 2018)

The Faroe Islands (trade worth £252m in 2018)

Eastern and Southern Africa (trade worth £2bn in 2018)

Yes and if you read it he said he would copy and paste existing deals already with countries outside the eu which the poster above has listed as done.I would think as the uk,s trade negotiator he was well aware that no new deals could be done as were most of us due to eu rules but a few on here dont seem to understand that.

I dont see anywhere where it was a promise it was a statement by a trade minister. We now have a new minister and i guess has new ideas, thats the way the world works things change when you get new people.Like when boris took over from t may.

Shall we ignore everything David Davis said about Brexit as well? "

"TFrom the BBC News website dated 1 Feb 2020;

What trade deals has the UK done so far?

While it was an EU member, the UK was automatically part of around 40 trade deals the EU had struck with more than 70 countries.

In the run-up to Brexit, the UK was given permission to replicate these agreements. So far, the UK has managed to roll over 20 "continuity" deals, covering 50 countries or territories:

Kosovo (trade worth £8m in 2018)

Jordan (trade worth £448m in 2018)

Morocco (trade worth £2.5bn in 2018)

Georgia (trade worth £123m in 2018)

Southern African nations (trade worth £10.2bn in 2018)

Tunisia (trade worth £542m in 2018)

Lebanon (trade worth £762m in 2018)

South Korea (trade worth £14.8bn in 2018)

Central America (trade worth £1.1bn in 2018)

Andean countries (trade worth £3.4bn in 2018)

Norway and Iceland (trade worth £30.6bn in 2018)

Caribbean countries (trade worth £3.7bn in 2018)

Pacific Islands (trade worth £163m in 2018)

Liechtenstein

Israel (trade worth £4.2bn in 2018)

Palestinian Authority (trade worth £41m in 2018)

Switzerland (trade worth £32.4bn in 2018)

The Faroe Islands (trade worth £252m in 2018)

Eastern and Southern Africa (trade worth £2bn in 2018)

Chile (trade worth £2bn in 2018). Thanks, that appears to be 20 of the 40 , are these deals which we were able to negotiate while we were a member of the EU ?The eu rules stated that no new negotiations could take place until we left which was a week ago.I can see by the comments on here that some people didnt seem to grasp that fact or they are just plain dumb thinking trade deals can be done in a week. . It was Liam Fox who said we had 40 free trade deals to announce when we left the EU , but he didn't say the deal would be done in a week , like you are suggesting , he said the deals would be announced the second we left ,,which was 1 second past 11pm on January 31st 2020 ,,,, we are still waiting no he said the deals would be announced one second after march 2019 all i can think of is the remainers fucking that date up has cost us 20 deals.

Why ? why not?

You made a statement , I was hoping you could back it up with a reason or facts. Sorry for my unrealistic optimism Its totally irreverent the whole conversation, he said that before the march 2019 leaving date we didnt leave so will never know one way or the other. He quit the job in july 2019 so anything after that he had no influence on.Totally irreverent even bringing him up.

Another Brexit promise broken , using your logic we can only trust what has been stated post July 2019? What about the promises made in the 2016 referendum, are they irrelevant as well??Going by my logic someone can only deliver what they say if they are still in the job not really that hard to understand is it?

It is difficult to know who to trust isn’t it? You can break promises, make false statements leave the job and and everything is forgotten? I though ministers spoke in behalf of the government? Obviously not

I don’t need to check full facts. I’m fully aware that we’re still in the customs union and single market - This would actually be a decent compromise position to stay in. But that won’t play well to the Tory faithful.

"TFrom the BBC News website dated 1 Feb 2020;

Why can’t his promises be kept by the current government? Why did he make these promises? Any idea ?? I dont see anywhere where it was a promise it was a statement by a trade minister. We now have a new minister and i guess has new ideas, thats the way the world works things change when you get new people.Like when boris took over from t may."

. So ,,,,the old trade minister wants free trade deals with other countries ( 40 ready to announce ) ,,,but ,,,,the new trade minister has new ideas ,,are you now saying that we don't want free trade deals ???

"It's toilet roll you should be stocking up on, it comes over from Europe as wet pulpy stuff and if it's delayed too long starts to solidify before it can be turned into paper. "

Is this a joke or do you really believe it???

"You never know if there could be a shortage of food. I might stock up on some haribos "

We love Haribo's but seeing as the factory that makes them is only 20 miles from where we live we ain't panicked.

As for your original question that really is tin foil hat stuff.

Well, as ive worked in the paper industry since 1987, i can honestly say its a load of horsepoo.

Pulp is transported from scandinavian countries (and North and South America),at a moisture content of between 7 and 10 per cent. The same as normal paper. Nobody would be stupid enough to waste fuel shipping water.

Plus the fact that most toilet tissue produced in this country is made from deinked recycled fibre.

Sorry for being so anal.

I just wanted to clean that point up.

Of course they are full, and they will always be full, after we have left the transition period there ‘may’ be less choice and things ‘might’ be more expensive though

This.

However, when you look at certain countries within the EU and how they have set themselves up just to supply us (by that I mean people like Tesco will buy 90% of the produce grown/made) the UK, then it will be against them to make if difficult for the UK to import.

After all, you can't afford to loose your biggest market and watch your business goto the wall.

As all things, wait and see.

But I wouldn't panic over food just yet.
