I was about to post about this.

The Number 10 press secretary spilt the journalists into two groups. Half would be briefed by civil servants and the other half would have to leave.

They all chose to leave. Credit to them.

Only wanting to brief to "friendly" press it seems. Something to hide? Only wanting to present one side of the story.

If you believe in what you are doing and are confident in your argument why do this?

Well, if your government decides which journalists it will and won't talk to, it's no better than what goes on in Russia, China or, indeed, the USA.

So, let's have no more of this horseshit about living in a country that has the freedom of the press we have always been told is vital to democracy.

All governments are full of lying wankers; but this shower are so incoherent in their bullshit, Cummings has told them not to talk to anyone who might ask them difficult questions. Which, of course, they are happy to do.

The most disturbing thing about this situation is that - like in the USA - so many people are ok with it.

And people think I'm crazy because I want Scotland to be free of all this shit.

well the briefing in the past was given by a civil servant so it was actually in effect non-political, but as soon as they decided to move these briefings to downing street, i know it was a huge fear of people i know that some would try to turn it into a "trump style" affair......

The message is clear. The press needs to choose between reporting the truth and reporting pro Johnson propaganda. Any press who don't tow the line shall be excluded from briefings.

It's strong arming the press into not being critical of decision making.

Perhaps the brand of Democracy Johnson has in store for is one where an already misinformed public have no opportunity to get their hands on the truth.

The good people of the UK have demonstrated a willingness to be misled by a dishonest press. So I can't imagine any outcry.

True. Any newspaper can print anything they wish. They will just be booted out of briefings based on the content of their articles.

It's a sad day when the press have more integrity than the PM...

You have missed the point of the thread I think.

All the ptess will not be free to access the information under this system because the government is limiting information to those organisations which it approves of.

How can there be an alternative opinion if there is no information made available to have an opinion of?

I'm guessing that the thoughts are that they may as well distate the trrms of this government early on, so that we get used to it. Cummings wants major change, so expect more of this to come.

Johnson is interested in himself, so manipulating the coverage helps him to have N easier ride. After a few months of being spoon fed propagnda, you'll be well trained by point blame at the EU, for things being poorer. B

Firstly can you imagine the uproar if a Corbyn lead Labour government had split the press in two, briefing the friendly ones differently to the others , and secondly do the Tories actually not realise that the press are their friends , with the majority of newspaper headlines and TV news items being very heavily weighted in favour of the Conservative Party , there is no real need for Johnson /Cummings to controll the media they are already controlled

When did we as a people lose interest in the truth. We only want journalists who ask the right questions, not the important questions?

We want to see no evil, hear no evil. Put our heads in the sand and pretend everything is just fine. And when you point out the emperor is wearing no clothes you get told to "be positive". It's spineless.

Johnson is now openly stating that we have a great deal with the EU.

Now prior to last Friday he’d have been right - membership was indeed a great deal.

Now we have an interim deal until the end of 2020 which is also good - though it makes us rule takers rather than rule makers.

But of course he wants you to think that he’s talking about trade negotiations, which haven’t even started yet.

We’re through the looking glass here.

There are quite a lot of workers and Anti-discrimination rights we enjoy only because of EU law or ECJ rulings that the UK Government of the time actively lobbied against or refused to implement until threatened by the ECJ.

Things like this now have no external protection.

How and why did it become OK to behave like this? Possibly the realisation that blatantly lying and refusing to respond to direct questioning has no electoral consequences.
