Sad day too for many, including those overseas with uncertainty on their futures, and people who prefer greater freedoms that membership has granted us.

I'll raise a glass to the many significant gains that the EU has brought people here, including stronger environmental and consumer protection, safety, employment rights, as well as stopping those mobile bills of several thousand pounds that many used to get when travelling. Not a political post, as this would be the wrong forum section for that.

We will still need to follow Euro regulations as our industry is so dependent upon trade with the EU so its not going to change much but will add a lot of complexities and costs.

It will no longer take 10 years to expel a convicted terrorist back to their country of origin. European Union said we had to respect their human rights and not to send them back to their countries if they weren't going to treat them right. Hopefully now we can make our own laws we can expel these dangerous people. That was the craziest thing Europe stopped us from doing. Happy independence day everyone

Im an ardent Leaver and im very happy today but in the 3 years since the referendum thats got to be the best comment ive seen on social media because it so true.

Im sure that in 10 years time the EU as a political institution will be history and at best it may continue as a loose trading block as it was intended to be but you are correct because if by some tiny chance things go tits up they will still want us back in their protectionist club as they need our money to run it.

Why not simply have a ‘civil war’ and be done with it. If the comments on here are representative of the feeling of people in general in the UK, anyone visiting would need to be careful with their words.

I was in the USA last year for a few weeks traveling around, and there was definitely a ‘tension’ with some conversations, if the subject of Trump was broached.

I understand that, however Remainers have spent 3 years telling leavers that they are thick, don't know what they voted for, rubbed people's noses in it as parliament ignored the people, demanded compromise and now are saying you should be gracious in victory and not rub our noses in it...

A little hypocritical...

Still going on with that!

What about the posters (worded differently)?

"So Brexit day is here..

Has Boris written the check for the first £350 million quid yet for the NHS like he promised or has he forgotten his pen and played you lot like cunts...

That's ok, when the country is doing well, you can hold your head high and say, no thanks, you keep my share...

So the first casualty of Brexit is the £350 million a week to all those poor sick souls in hospital.

Or is it the truth.?

You choose.

Still going on with that!

Obviously you never saw the bus or you would actually know what it had written on it!

What about the posters (worded differently)?

"

Brexit drones are wilfully ignorant of the promises made .

Even that sack of shit Nigel said a few hours after the referendum result live on tv that it was a mistake to promise that £350million a week would be spent on the NHS if the UK backed a Brexit vote.

"Meanwhile all government departments have been told their budgets are being cut by 5%. Not exactly indicative of the promised end of austerity and certainly not indicative of some sort of post brexit boom"

Ok not a big follower BUT I seem to remember being told that leaving would put Millions back into the UK instead of taking it.

How did you celebrate last night? Nigel’s Parliament square party looked amazing, I haven’t seen a group of people like that since dawn of the dead. It was a historic day for all of us, Nigel’s happy little face was such a joyful sight, I must admit I got so excited I accidentally soiled myself

"Will those celebrating the exit do me a favour?

Right after you shout your ecstasy..... will you explain to me WHY it is going to be so great for the future of Britain and the British people ?

How is it going to alter YOUR life?

It will no longer take 10 years to expel a convicted terrorist back to their country of origin. European Union said we had to respect their human rights and not to send them back to their countries if they weren't going to treat them right. Hopefully now we can make our own laws we can expel these dangerous people. That was the craziest thing Europe stopped us from doing. Happy independence day everyone

Is that it? an estimated £130 billion brexit cost to get a single group of people out the country a bit quicker

Yep.... That's it "

Then you're going to very sadly disappointed when that doesn't happen. The rules that prevent us from expelling convicted terrorists back to their country of origin has nothing to do with the EU. It's the European Convention on Human Rights that prevents that and that convention is a UN convention, nothing to do with being in the EU or not.

We don't get upset, we are to thick to know anything, remember. An opinion is always critiqued by the people who know everything, but at least we have an opinion, even if we haven't got a clue. Aint democracy brilliant, all the thick people making a difference

Closing the door behind us as we leave to go and be nice to the nice people. Feel the love everyone.

"No harm in giving it a go not like they wouldnt beg to have us back

Im an ardent Leaver and im very happy today but in the 3 years since the referendum thats got to be the best comment ive seen on social media because it so true.

Im sure that in 10 years time the EU as a political institution will be history and at best it may continue as a loose trading block as it was intended to be but you are correct because if by some tiny chance things go tits up they will still want us back in their protectionist club as they need our money to run it."

There is a lot of harm to the national economy in giving it a go. As we will soon see. Rejoining might or might not be straightforward (last time round, our application was blocked for years) but it certainly won't come with any of the personalised deals we had last time eg rebate.

Anyway ... we are now in the 'learn lessons the hard way' and 'natural consequences' stage of Brexit so let's see how it unfolds.

I hope the EU doesn't fall apart though - it was foremost a political project to avoid future war in Europe - but also leaves each European country weaker against large blocs/powers.

I only comment on things I know about and definitely never profess to knowing everything but sticking to issues I do know about does help.

Does it not bother you that you vote and comment as fact for something that you don't have a clue about

It sounds like someone in Ireland wanted to celebrate big, blowing up a lorry on the irish scotland ferry.

Nice way to celebrate Brexit I think.
